What the texts say

Shiva Purana 2.2.1.17 The same Purana shows her firm in her vow to win Shiva as her husband, worshipping him with devotion. Shiva Purana 7.18.10 Angered at not being shown due honor, Sati abandoned her body at her father's sacrifice, entering yogic concentration. Shiva Purana 2.3.1.6, 2.2.30.6 The Skanda Purana tells how the hero Virabhadra went forth from Shiva's matted locks on Sati's behalf and destroyed Daksha's sacrifice.
