Within the Varāha–Pṛthivī dialogue, Varāha turns from general dharma-teaching to a tightly prescriptive dāna-vidhi, introducing the kṣīradhenu (a ritually constructed “milk-cow”) as a paradigmatic gift that converts material resources into merit through correct procedure and qualified transfer.
Stepwise construction, installation, worship, and donation of the kṣīradhenu: the donor prepares a purified ritual ground (gomaya-smearing), lays kuśa and kṛṣṇājina, forms a gomaya maṇḍala/kuṇḍalikā, installs the milk-pot (kṣīra-kumbha) and calf portion, ornaments the cow with specified substances and directional placements of grains/tila, performs pūjā-upacāras, and formally gives the completed gift to a brāhmaṇa with Vedic mantras.
The rite culminates in mantra-sanctioned handover (saṅkalpa + dāna) to a brāhmaṇa, presenting the gift as ritually ‘alive’ and cosmically legible—its materials, directions, and adornments integrated into a single offering that stabilizes social order (proper recipient) and moral causality (proper method).
The chapter closes with a phalaśruti promising high post-mortem attainments (Indraloka and Viṣṇuloka) and pāpa-kṣaya; both the donor and the reciter/hearer are said to gain merit, with liberation/soteriological uplift framed as the ultimate outcome of regulated generosity.
No explicit toponyms or river systems are named in the provided passage; the setting is a generalized ritual ground (mahīpṛṣṭha) prepared for donation.
The text frames ethical action through regulated generosity (dāna) and disciplined ritual procedure: wealth and crafted objects are redistributed to a qualified recipient (brāhmaṇa) following a codified sequence of purification, installation, worship, and mantra-recitation. The internal logic links correct giving to social order (recipient legitimacy, donor restraint) and to moral causality (phalaśruti describing reduced pāpa and improved post-mortem states).
No tithi, nakṣatra, lunar month, or seasonal marker is specified in the provided verses. The timing is presented as situational—performed when the donor undertakes the dāna—rather than calendrically fixed.
While primarily a ritual manual, the procedure foregrounds earth-contact materials (gomaya, kuśa, grains, tila) and prescribes controlled, formalized use rather than extractive consumption. In an environmental-ethics reading aligned with Pṛthivī-focused Purāṇic discourse, the chapter models a norm where terrestrial resources are ritually accounted for, redistributed, and symbolically reinvested into social and cosmological order through dāna.
No dynastic lineages or named historical figures appear in the provided excerpt. The addressee is a generic royal interlocutor (e.g., narādhipa, nṛpottama, mahārāja), and the ritual recipient category is brāhmaṇa; the cosmological figures invoked in outcomes include Indra (Indraloka) and Viṣṇu (Viṣṇuloka, Viṣṇu-sāyujya).
