تستدعي هذه الترنيمة الأترية القصيرة أغني بوصفه اللهيب المُطهِّر والهوترَ المحبوب للذبيحة، وتلتمس منه أن يتعرّف على كلام الشعراء الموحى به ويقبله. وتعرض أغني حامياً إلهياً مُختاراً ذا ذهنٍ مُميِّز وبصيرةٍ فاحصة، وتُبرز سلالة أتري بوصفهم الذين «يزيدون» أغني ويزيّنونه بالستومات والـگيرات. وغرضها طقسيّ تعبّدي: إيقاد حضور أغني، واستجلاب عونه، وضمان أن تمضي الذبيحة تحت هدايته المشرقة.

प्र विश्वसामन्नत्रिवदर्चा पावकशोचिषे । यो अध्वरेष्वीड्यो होता मन्द्रतमो विशि ॥
أنشدْ إلى الأمام، يا ترنيمةَ الشمول، كما كان أتري ينشد، للّهبِ المطهِّر. ذاك الذي في الأدهفارا (adhvara) يُبتغى ويُعبَد—الهوتَر (Hotar)، الأشدُّ طربًا بين الشعوب—فليُثبَّتْ بكلمتنا.

न्यग्निं जातवेदसं दधाता देवमृत्विजम् । प्र यज्ञ एत्वानुषगद्या देवव्यचस्तमः ॥
أقيموا أغني، جاتافيداس، الكاهنَ الإلهيَّ لمواسمِ الزمن. ولْيمضِ اليَجْنَةُ اليومَ قُدُماً على التتابعِ الحقّ—هو الأوسعُ امتداداً بين الآلهة؛ فليتقدّمْ وليقُدِ السبيل.

चिकित्विन्मनसं त्वा देवं मर्तास ऊतये । वरेण्यस्य तेऽवस इयानासो अमन्महि ॥
أنتَ، أيها الإلهُ ذو الذهنِ المُدرك، قد استحضرناكَ نحنُ الفانينَ لِعَونِكَ. طَلَباً لِحِمى المختارِ الجديرِ بالاختيار، توجّهنا إليكَ ورضينا في سرائرِنا.

अग्ने चिकिद्ध्यस्य न इदं वचः सहस्य । तं त्वा सुशिप्र दम्पते स्तोमैर्वर्धन्त्यत्रयो गीर्भिः शुम्भन्त्यत्रयः ॥
يا أغني، اعرفْ هذه كلمتَنا، يا قويَّ البأس. أنتَ، يا ربَّ الدارِ ذو الشفتينِ الحَسَنَتَين، إنَّ آلَ أَتري يزيدونكَ بالستومات؛ وبالأقوالِ المُلهَمةِ يزيّنونكَ ويجعلونكَ تتلألأُ جمالاً.
