ଏହି ସଂକ୍ଷିପ୍ତ ଆତ୍ରି-ସୂକ୍ତରେ ଅଗ୍ନିଙ୍କୁ ପବିତ୍ରକାରୀ ଶିଖା ଓ ଯଜ୍ଞର ପ୍ରିୟ ହୋତୃ ଭାବେ ଆହ୍ୱାନ କରାଯାଇଛି, ଏବଂ କବିମାନଙ୍କ ପ୍ରେରିତ ବାଣୀକୁ ସେ ଚିହ୍ନି ଗ୍ରହଣ କରୁନ୍ତୁ ବୋଲି ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କରାଯାଇଛି। ଏଠାରେ ଅଗ୍ନିଙ୍କୁ ବିବେକଶୀଳ ମନସ୍ ସହିତ ଚୟିତ ଦିବ୍ୟ ରକ୍ଷକ ଭାବେ ଦେଖାଯାଇଛି, ଏବଂ ଆତ୍ରି ବଂଶକୁ ସେମାନେ ଯେ ସ୍ତୋମ ଓ ଗୀରା ଦ୍ୱାରା ଅଗ୍ନିଙ୍କୁ “ବଢ଼ାନ୍ତି” ଓ ଶୋଭାୟିତ କରନ୍ତି—ଏଭଳି ଭାବେ ଉଲ୍ଲେଖ କରାଯାଇଛି। ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟ ଲିଟର୍ଜିକାଲ୍ ଓ ଭକ୍ତିମୟ: ଅଗ୍ନିଙ୍କ ସାନ୍ନିଧ୍ୟକୁ ପ୍ରଜ୍ୱଳିତ କରିବା, ତାଙ୍କ ସହାୟତା ସୁନିଶ୍ଚିତ କରିବା, ଏବଂ ତାଙ୍କ ଉଜ୍ଜ୍ୱଳ ନେତୃତ୍ୱ ତଳେ ଯଜ୍ଞ ସୁଚାରୁ ଭାବେ ଅଗ୍ରସର ହେବାକୁ ନିଶ୍ଚିତ କରିବା।

प्र विश्वसामन्नत्रिवदर्चा पावकशोचिषे । यो अध्वरेष्वीड्यो होता मन्द्रतमो विशि ॥
ହେ ବିଶ୍ୱସାମନ, ଅତ୍ରି ଯେପରି ଗାଏ ସେପରି ପାବକ ଜ୍ୱାଳା ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରଗଟ ଗାନ କର। ଯେ ଅଧ୍ୱରମାନଙ୍କରେ ଇଡ୍ୟ, ଯେ ହୋତୃ—ଜନମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ସର୍ବାଧିକ ମନ୍ଦ୍ରତମ—ସେ ଆମ ବାଣୀଦ୍ୱାରା ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠିତ ହେଉ।

न्यग्निं जातवेदसं दधाता देवमृत्विजम् । प्र यज्ञ एत्वानुषगद्या देवव्यचस्तमः ॥
ଅଗ୍ନି ଜାତବେଦସଙ୍କୁ—ଋତୁମାନଙ୍କର ଦିବ୍ୟ ଋତ୍ୱିଜଙ୍କୁ—ସ୍ଥାପନ କର। ଆଜି ଯଜ୍ଞ ଅନୁଷକ୍ କ୍ରମରେ ଅଗ୍ରସର ହେଉ; ଦେବମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ସର୍ବାଧିକ ବ୍ୟାପକ (ପହଞ୍ଚ ଥିବା) ସେଇ ଅଗ୍ରଣୀ ହୋଇ ପଥ ଦେଖାଉ।

चिकित्विन्मनसं त्वा देवं मर्तास ऊतये । वरेण्यस्य तेऽवस इयानासो अमन्महि ॥
ବିବେକୀ ମନ ଥିବା ତୁମକୁ, ହେ ଦେବ, ଆମେ ମର୍ତ୍ୟମାନେ ସହାୟତା ପାଇଁ ମନେ ଧାରଣ କରିଛୁ। ବରେଣ୍ୟ ସେଇ ଏକଙ୍କର ତୁମ ଅବସ (ରକ୍ଷା) ଆକାଂକ୍ଷାରେ ଆମେ ତୁମ ପାଖକୁ ମୁହଁ ଫେରାଇଛୁ ଏବଂ ଅନ୍ତରେ ସମ୍ମତି ଦେଇଛୁ।

अग्ने चिकिद्ध्यस्य न इदं वचः सहस्य । तं त्वा सुशिप्र दम्पते स्तोमैर्वर्धन्त्यत्रयो गीर्भिः शुम्भन्त्यत्रयः ॥
ହେ ଅଗ୍ନେ, ହେ ସହସ୍ୟ (ବଳବାନ), ଆମର ଏହି ବଚନକୁ ଜାଣି ଗ୍ରହଣ କର। ହେ ସୁଶିପ୍ର, ହେ ଦମ୍ପତି (ଗୃହପତି), ଅତ୍ରିମାନେ ସ୍ତୋମଦ୍ୱାରା ତୁମକୁ ବର୍ଧିତ କରନ୍ତି; ପ୍ରେରିତ ଗୀର୍ଦ୍ୱାରା ଅତ୍ରିମାନେ ତୁମକୁ ଶୋଭାୟିତ କରି ଦୀପ୍ତିମାନ ଭାବେ ଜ୍ୱଳନ୍ତ କରନ୍ତି।
