What the texts say

Shiva Purana 2.2.1.17 The same Purana shows her firm in her vow to win Shiva as her husband, worshipping him with devotion. Shiva Purana 2.2.15.13 Daksha, however, urged on by enmity, did not invite Shiva or Sati to the sacrifice he was holding. Shiva Purana 7.18.10 Angered at not being shown due honor, Sati abandoned her body at her father's sacrifice, entering yogic concentration. Shiva Purana 2.3.1.6, 2.2.30.6 The Skanda Purana tells how the hero Virabhadra went forth from Shiva's matted locks on Sati's behalf and destroyed Daksha's sacrifice. Skanda Purana 1.1.33.99 The Devi Bhagavatam names the Pithas, places formed by Sati Devi's body parts. Devi Bhagavatam 7.30.85 In the Shiva Purana, Sati was born again as the daughter of Himalaya, and the name Parvati became renowned for her. Shiva Purana 2.2.1.44
