આ ટૂંકું પાવમાના સૂક્ત સોમનું સ્તવન કરે છે: પિષણમાંથી મુક્ત થઈ તે ઊનની ગાળણીમાં પ્રવેશે છે અને જોડી પાત્રોમાં પ્રવાહિત થાય છે; શુદ્ધ બની દેવો માટે શક્તિમાન બને છે. ઋત (ક્રમબદ્ધ સત્ય)ને અનુસરતો તેનો સત્યશોધી પ્રવાહ, બળ વધારતી તેની શક્તિ, અને સ્વર્ગલોક તરફ તેની આરોહણ—આ મંત્રો તેનું ગૌરવ ગાય છે; યજમાનને ઉત્સાહ, પ્રકાશ અને વીરબળ અર્પે છે.

Mantra 1

असर्जि रथ्यो यथा पवित्रे चम्वोः सुतः । कार्ष्मन्वाजी न्यक्रमीत् ॥

રથ્ય જેમ મુક્ત થયો તેમ સુત સોમ પવિત્રમાં અને બે ચમૂઓમાં પ્રવેશે છે; બળ-સમૃદ્ધિ લાવનાર વાજી બની, યજ્ઞના કર્મક્ષેત્રમાં નીચે ઉતરી પગલાં ભરે છે।

Mantra 2

स वह्निः सोम जागृविः पवस्व देववीरति । अभि कोशं मधुश्चुतम् ॥

હે સોમ, વહ્નિ—વહન કરનાર અગ્નિસ્વરૂપ, જાગૃત રહેનાર—તું દેવવીરત્વ તરફ, શુદ્ધિ પામતો વહે; મધુ ટપકાવતાં પાત્ર (કોશ) તરફ તું અભિમુખ થઈ પ્રવાહિત થા.

स नो ज्योतींषि पूर्व्य पवमान वि रोचय । क्रत्वे दक्षाय नो हिनु ॥

હે પવમાન, અમારા માટે પ્રાચીન જ્યોતિઓને પ્રકાશિત કર; સદ્કર્મના સંકલ્પ (ક્રતુ) અને દક્ષતા/વિચારશક્તિ (દક્ષ) તરફ અમને પ્રેર.

Mantra 4

शुम्भमान ऋतायुभिर्मृज्यमानो गभस्त्योः । पवते वारे अव्यये ॥

ઋતના અનુયાયીઓથી શોભિત, હાથોના કિરણોમાં પરિશુદ્ધ થતો, તે અવિનાશી પ્રવાહમાં વહે છે—સોમ ઋતરૂપ શુદ્ધ વ્યવસ્થા અને તેજસ્વી આનંદરૂપે પ્રવર્તે છે.

स विश्वा दाशुषे वसु सोमो दिव्यानि पार्थिवा । पवतामान्तरिक्ष्या ॥

સ પવમાન સોમ દાન આપનાર દાશુષેને સર્વ વસુ—દિવ્ય અને પાર્થિવ—અને અંતરિક્ષ્ય (મધ્યલોકના) ધનો પણ અર્પે.

आ दिवस्पृष्ठमश्वयुर्गव्ययुः सोम रोहसि । वीरयुः शवसस्पते ॥

હે સોમ, અશ્વયુઃ (વેગની શક્તિ ઇચ્છનાર), ગવ્યયુઃ (ગવ્યો/કિરણો ઇચ્છનાર) બની તું દિવસના પૃષ્ઠ પર આરોહે છે; હે શવસસ્પતે, વીરયુઃ (વીર્યમય આત્મબળ ઇચ્છનાર) પણ તું જ છે.
