ఈ సంక్షిప్త వసిష్ఠ స్తోత్రం ఉషస్సు (ప్రభాతాన్ని) ఋషులను ముందుగా మేల్కొలిపే దేవతగా, సమస్త లోకాలను ప్రకాశింపజేసే ప్రకటనకర్తగా వందిస్తుంది. ఆమె రెండు లోకాలను కదిలించి, అస్తిత్వాన్ని దృశ్యముగా చేస్తుంది. జీవనాన్ని నూతనీకరించుటకు, చీకటిని వెలుగుతో కప్పివేయుటకు, దృష్టిని సూర్యుని, అగ్నిని, యజ్ఞాన్ని దిశగా నడిపించుటకు ఉషస్సు స్తుతింపబడుతుంది. ముగింపు ప్రార్థనలో—ప్రతిదినం శుభముతో ఉషస్సులు ఉదయించి, బలం, ప్రకాశం, వీరశక్తిని ప్రసాదించి, ఆరాధకులను దీర్ఘకాల క్షేమముతో రక్షించుగాక అని కోరబడుతుంది.

प्रति स्तोमेभिरुषसं वसिष्ठा गीर्भिर्विप्रासः प्रथमा अबुध्रन् । विवर्तयन्तीं रजसी समन्ते आविष्कृण्वतीं भुवनानि विश्वा ॥
స్తోమములతోను గీర్భులతోను వసిష్ఠులు—విప్రులు—ఉషస్సును లక్ష్యంగా మొదటగా మేల్కొంటారు. ఆమె రెండు రజసీ (రెండు లోకాలు/రెండు ఆకాశ-ప్రదేశాలు)ను చుట్టూ తిప్పుతూ, సమస్త భువనాని (అన్ని లోక/అస్తిత్వ-స్థరాలు)ను దర్శనానికి ప్రకటిస్తుంది.

एषा स्या नव्यमायुर्दधाना गूढ्वी तमो ज्योतिषोषा अबोधि । अग्र एति युवतिरह्रयाणा प्राचिकितत्सूर्यं यज्ञमग्निम् ॥
ఈ ఉషస్సు నూతనాయువును ధరించి మేల్కొంది; తన జ్యోతితో తమస్సును కప్పి దాచుతుంది. అగ్రంలో ఆ యువతి, అహ్రయాణ—అలసటలేని—ముందుకు సాగుతుంది; మరియు సూర్యుడు, యజ్ఞము, అగ్ని—ఇవన్నీ మనకు ‘ప్రాచీకిత్’—ముందుముఖ బోధ—గా ప్రత్యక్షం చేస్తుంది.

अश्वावतीर्गोमतीर्न उषासो वीरवतीः सदमुच्छन्तु भद्राः । घृतं दुहाना विश्वतः प्रपीता यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
అశ్వవతీ, గోమతీ, వీరవతీ—ఇలా మంగళకరమైన ఉషస్సులు మా కొరకు ఎల్లప్పుడూ ఉదయించుగాక. ఘృతాన్ని దోహనముచేసి, విశ్వతః ప్రపీతా—అన్ని దిశల నుండీ పరిపూర్ణమైన—మీరు స్వస్తిభిః—క్షేమసౌహార్దాలతో—ఎల్లప్పుడూ మమ్మల్ని రక్షించండి.
