एषः पञ्चर्चोऽयं सूक्तः अग्रिं प्रथमतमं होतारं समाह्वयति—यः यज्ञं बोध्यं सफलं च करोति, यस्य विना अमराः अपि स्वां हर्षप्राप्तिं न लभन्ते। अग्निः विश्वैः देवैः सह आगन्तुम्, मानुषेण विधिना हविः कर्तुम्, दूतत्वं रक्षित्वं च वहन्तुं, तथा शत्रुवाचः प्रति पालयितुं प्रार्थ्यते; अन्ते च दिवि देवेषु यज्ञविधिं प्रतिष्ठाप्य दीर्घकालिकाय कल्याणाय भवतु इति।

महाँ अस्यध्वरस्य प्रकेतो न ऋते त्वदमृता मादयन्ते । आ विश्वेभिः सरथं याहि देवैर्न्यग्ने होता प्रथमः सदेह ॥
हे अग्ने, अस्याध्वरस्य महाँ प्रकेतः; न ऋते त्वत् अमृताः मादयन्ते। विश्वेभिः देवैः सरथम् आ याहि; नि अग्ने, होता प्रथमः सदेह।

त्वामीळते अजिरं दूत्याय हविष्मन्तः सदमिन्मानुषासः । यस्य देवैरासदो बर्हिरग्नेऽहान्यस्मै सुदिना भवन्ति ॥
हविष्मन्तः सदम् इन् मानुषासः त्वाम् ईळते अजिरं दूत्याय। यस्य देवैः आसदो बर्हिः, अग्ने, अहानि अस्मै सुदिना भवन्ति।

त्रिश्चिदक्तोः प्र चिकितुर्वसूनि त्वे अन्तर्दाशुषे मर्त्याय । मनुष्वदग्न इह यक्षि देवान्भवा नो दूतो अभिशस्तिपावा ॥
