Mantra 1

अध्यात्म-प्रकरणम्। उ॒देहि॑ वाजि॒न् यो अ॒प्स्व॑१न्तरि॒दं रा॒ष्ट्रं प्र वि॑श सू॒नृता॑वत्। यो रोहि॑तो॒ विश्व॑मि॒दं ज॒जान॒ स त्वा॑ रा॒ष्ट्राय॒ सुभृ॑तं बिभर्तु

Rise forth, O mighty Winner, who, within the waters, enterest this realm—enter it with gracious truth of speech. He, Rohita, who begat all this whole, let him uphold thee for the kingdom, well-sustained.

Mantra 2

उद् वाज॒ आ ग॒न् यो अ॒प्स्व॑१न्तर्विश॒ आ रो॑ह॒ त्वद्यो॑नयो॒ याः । सोमं॒ दधा॑नो॒ऽप ओष॑धी॒र्गाश्च॑तुष्पदो द्वि॒पद॒ आ वे॑शये॒ह

Up hath the conquering Might come hither—he who, within the waters, among the folk, is bidden to ascend. Ye that have him for womb and origin, bearing Soma—O Waters, O Plants—cause ye the cows, the four-footed, and the two-footed to enter and be established here.

Mantra 3

यू॒यमु॒ग्रा म॑रुतः पृश्निमातर॒ इन्द्रे॑ण यु॒जा प्र मृ॑णीत॒ शत्रू॑न्। आ वो॒ रोहि॑तः शृणवत् सुदानवस्त्रिष॒प्तासो॑ मरुतः स्वादुसंमुदः

Ye fierce Maruts, children of Pṛśni, yoked in fellowship with Indra, smite ye forth the foes. Unto you may Rohita give ear—ye bounteous givers, ye thrice-seven Maruts, sweet in your concordant joy.

Mantra 4

रुहो॑ रुरोह॒ रोहि॑त॒ आ रु॑रोह॒ गर्भो॒ जनी॑नां ज॒नुषा॑मु॒पस्थ॑म्। ताभिः॒ संर॑ब्ध॒मन्व॑विन्द॒न् षडु॒र्वीर्गा॒तुं प्र॒पश्य॑न्नि॒ह रा॒ष्ट्रमाहाः॑

Thou risest; Rohita hath risen—hath risen up, the germ within the mothers, the seat of generations. With them, firmly grasping, they found in ordered course the path through six broad regions; beholding it forth, thou hast brought the kingdom hither, even here.

Mantra 5

आ ते॑ रा॒ष्ट्रमि॒ह रोहि॑तोऽहार्षी॒द् व्याऽस्थ॒न्मृधो॒ अभ॑यं ते अभूत्। तस्मै॑ ते॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी रे॒वती॑भिः॒ कामं॑ दुहातामि॒ह शक्व॑रीभिः

Hither hath Rohita brought thy kingdom here; the assaults have stood apart, and fearlessness hath come to thee. For him—for thee—let Heaven and Earth, rich in possessions, milk out desire’s fulfilment here with puissant powers.

Mantra 6

रोहि॑तो॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी ज॑जान॒ तत्र॒ तन्तुं॑ परमे॒ष्ठी त॑तान । तत्र॑ शिश्रिये॒ऽज एक॑पा॒दोऽदृं॑ह॒द् द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी बले॑न

Rohita begat Heaven and Earth; therein the Highest Ordainer stretched the thread. Therein the Unborn, one-footed, took his rest; by strength he made Heaven and Earth stand firm.

Mantra 7

रोहि॑तो॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी अ॑दृंह॒त् तेन॒ स्वऽ स्तभि॒तं तेन॒ नाकः॑ । तेना॒न्तरि॑क्षं॒ विमि॑ता॒ रजां॑सि॒ तेन॑ दे॒वा अ॒मृत॒मन्व॑विन्दन्

Rohita made Heaven and Earth firm; thereby the heaven-world was stayed, thereby the firmament. Thereby the mid-air was measured out, the regions were apportioned; thereby the Gods won immortality.

Mantra 8

वि रोहि॑तो अमृशद् वि॒श्वरू॑पं समाकुर्वा॒णः प्र॒रुहो॒ रुह॑श्च । दिवं॑ रू॒ढ्वा म॑ह॒ता म॑हि॒म्ना सं ते॑ रा॒ष्ट्रम॑नक्तु॒ पय॑सा घृ॒तेन॑

Forth Rohita hath reached the All-formed, shaping together the uprisings and the growths. Having mounted unto heaven with mighty majesty, let him anoint thy realm with milk and with ghee.

Mantra 9

यास्ते॒ रुहः॑ प्र॒रुहो॒ यास्त॑ आ॒रुहो॒ याभि॑रापृ॒णासि॒ दिव॑म॒न्तरि॑क्षम्। तासां॒ ब्रह्म॑णा॒ पय॑सा ववृधा॒नो वि॒शि रा॒ष्ट्रे जा॑गृहि॒ रोहि॑तस्य

What growths are thine, what forward growths, what upward climbings—wherewith thou fillest heaven and mid-air: waxing by sacred spell and by milk, keep thou watch in folk and realm, O Rohita.

Mantra 10

यस्ते॒ विश॒स्तप॑सः संबभू॒वुर्व॒त्सं गा॑य॒त्रीमनु॒ ता इ॒हागुः॑ । तास्त्वा वि॑शन्तु॒ मन॑सा शि॒वेन॒ संमा॑ता व॒त्सो अ॒भ्येऽतु॒ रोहि॑तः

What clans of thine were born of ardour—following the Gāyatrī they have come hither: let them enter thee with kindly mind; let the calf, with its mother, come unto Rohita.

Mantra 11

ऊ॒र्ध्वो रोहि॑तो॒ अधि॒ नाके॑ अस्था॒द् विश्वा॑ रू॒पाणि॑ ज॒नय॒न् युवा॑ क॒विः । ति॒ग्मेना॒ग्निर्ज्योति॑षा॒ वि भा॑ति तृ॒तीये॑ चक्रे॒ रज॑सि प्रि॒याणि॑

Aloft Rohita stood upon the firmament, generating all forms, the youthful Sage. With keen fire he, with radiance, shineth forth: in the third wheel, in the region, are his dear boons.

Mantra 12

स॒हस्र॑शृङ्गो वृष॒भो जा॒तवे॑दा घृ॒ताहु॑तः॒ सोम॑पृष्ठः सु॒वीरः॑ । मा मा॑ हासीन्नाथि॒तो नेत् त्वा॒ जहा॑नि गोपो॒षं च॑ मे वीरपो॒षं च॑ धेहि

Thousand-horned Bull, Jātavedas, ghee-invoked, Soma-backed, rich in heroes—forsake me not, a suppliant; nor will I indeed forsake thee. Set thou in me both increase of cattle and increase of men.

Mantra 13

रोहि॑तो य॒ज्ञस्य॑ जनि॒ता मुखं॑ च॒ रोहि॑ताय वा॒चा श्रोत्रे॑ण॒ मन॑सा जुहोमि । रोहि॑तं दे॒वा य॑न्ति सुमन॒स्यमा॑नाः॒ स मा॒ रोहैः॑ सामि॒त्यै रो॑हयतु

Rohita, begetter of the sacrifice and its very mouth—unto Rohita with speech, with hearing, with mind I make oblation. After Rohita the Gods advance, well-disposed: may he cause me to rise by risings, unto concord and assembly.

Mantra 14

रोहि॑तो य॒ज्ञं व्यदधाद् वि॒श्वक॑र्मणे॒ तस्मा॒त् तेजां॒स्युप॑ मे॒मान्यागुः॑ । वो॒चेयं॑ ते॒ नाभिं॒ भुव॑न॒स्याधि॑ म॒ज्मनि॑

Rohita set the sacrifice in ordered fashion for Viśvakarman; therefore have these splendors come unto me. May I proclaim thy navel, set in the midmost of the world.

Mantra 15

आ त्वा॑ रुरोह बृह॒त्यू३त प॒ङ्क्तिरा क॒कुब् वर्च॑सा जातवेदः । आ त्वा॑ रुरोहोष्णिहाक्ष॒रो व॑षट्का॒र आ त्वा॑ रुरोह॒ रोहि॑तो॒ रेत॑सा स॒ह

Upon thee hath mounted Bṛhatī, and Paṅkti; upon thee Kakubh with splendour, O Jātavedas. Upon thee have mounted Uṣṇih, the syllable, the Vaṣaṭ-call; upon thee hath mounted Rohita together with seed.

Mantra 16

अ॒यं व॑स्ते॒ गर्भं॑ पृथि॒व्या दिवं॑ वस्ते॒ऽयम॒न्तरि॑क्षम्। अ॒यं ब्र॒ध्नस्य॑ वि॒ष्टपि॒ स्वर्लो॒कान् व्याऽनशे

This (one) is for you the womb of Earth; for you this is Heaven; this is the Mid-air. This hath reached abroad the seat of Bradhna, the heavenly worlds.

Mantra 17

वाच॑स्पते पृथि॒वी नः॑ स्यो॒ना स्यो॒ना योनि॒स्तल्पा॑ नः सु॒शेवा॑ । इ॒हैव प्रा॒णः स॒ख्ये नो॑ अस्तु॒ तं त्वा॑ परमेष्ठि॒न् पर्य॒ग्निरायु॑षा॒ वर्च॑सा दधातु

O Lord of Speech, let Earth be kindly unto us—kindly our womb, our couch, most gracious. Here, even here, let the Breath be ours in fellowship; thee may Paramesthin, and Agni round about, establish with life and with splendor.

Mantra 18

वाच॑स्पत ऋ॒तवः॒ पञ्च॒ ये नौ॑ वैश्वकर्म॒णाः परि॒ ये सं॑बभू॒वुः । इ॒हैव प्रा॒णः स॒ख्ये नो॑ अस्तु॒ तं त्वा॑ परमेष्ठि॒न् परि॒ रोहि॑त॒ आयु॑षा॒ वर्च॑सा दधातु

O Lord of Speech, the five Seasons which, wrought by Viśvakarman, have compassed us about—here, even here, let the Breath be ours in fellowship. Thee may Paramesthin, and Rohita round about, establish with life and with splendor.

Mantra 19

वाच॑स्पते सौमन॒सं मन॑श्च गो॒ष्ठे नो॒ गा ज॒नय॒ योनि॑षु प्र॒जाः । इ॒हैव प्रा॒णः स॒ख्ये नो॑ अस्तु॒ तं त्वा॑ परमेष्ठि॒न् पर्य॒हमायु॑षा॒ वर्च॑सा दधातु

O Lord of Speech, beget for us good-mindedness and mind; in our cattle-stall beget cows, in the wombs beget offspring. Here, even here, let the Breath be ours in fellowship; thee may Paramesthin wholly establish—with life and with splendor—(as) I (recite).

Mantra 20

परि॑ त्वा धात् सवि॒ता दे॒वो अ॒ग्निर्वर्च॑सा मि॒त्रावरु॑णाव॒भि त्वा॑ । सर्वा॒ अरा॑तीरव॒क्राम॒न्नेही॒दं रा॒ष्ट्रम॑करः सु॒नृता॑वत्

Round thee may Savitar set, and Agni the God, with splendor; Mitra and Varuṇa upon thee. All hostilities have stepped away: come thou—this realm thou hast made—endowed with good and truthful proclamation.

Mantra 21

यं त्वा॒ पृष॑ती॒ रथे॒ प्रष्टि॒र्वह॑ति रोहित । शु॒भा या॑सि रि॒णन्न॒पः

Thee whom the speckled (steed) on the chariot, the shaft, bears, O Rohita—fairly thou goest, cleaving the waters.

Mantra 22

अनु॑व्रता॒ रोहि॑णी॒ रोहि॑तस्य सू॒रिः सु॒वर्णा॑ बृह॒ती सु॒वर्चाः॑ । तया॒ वाजा॑न् वि॒श्वरू॑पां जयेम॒ तया॒ विश्वाः॒ पृत॑ना अ॒भि ष्या॑म

Rohiṇī, faithful to ordinance, Rohita’s gracious patron—golden, vast, of goodly splendour: by her may we win prizes of every form; by her may we be superior in all battles.

Mantra 23

इ॒दं सदो॒ रोहि॑णी॒ रोहि॑तस्या॒सौ पन्थाः॒ पृष॑ती॒ येन॒ याति॑ । तां ग॑न्ध॒र्वाः क॒श्यपा॒ उन्न॑यन्ति॒ तां र॑क्षन्ति क॒वयोऽप्र॑मादम्

This is Rohiṇī’s seat, Rohita’s: yonder is the path whereon the Spotted One goes. That path the Gandharvas, the Kāśyapas, lift and lead; that the sages guard, with never a remissness.

Mantra 24

सूर्य॒स्याश्वा॒ हर॑यः केतु॒मन्तः॒ सदा॑ वहन्त्य॒मृताः॑ सु॒खं रथ॑म्। घृ॒त॒पावा॒ रोहि॑तो॒ भ्राज॑मानो॒ दिवं॑ दे॒वः पृष॑ती॒मा वि॑वेश

The Sun’s steeds, the tawny, sign-bearers, ever bear the chariot, deathless, moving in ease. Rohita, ghee-purified, shining, the god, hath entered into heaven, into the Spotted One.

Mantra 25

यो रोहि॑तो वृष॒भस्ति॒ग्मशृ॑ङ्गः॒ पर्य॒ग्निं परि॒ सूर्यं॑ ब॒भूव॑ । यो वि॑ष्ट॒भ्नाति॑ पृथि॒वीं दिवं॑ च॒ तस्मा॑द् दे॒वा अधि॒ सृष्टीः॑ सृजन्ते

Rohita, the bull with sharp-pointed horns, hath compassed Agni round, hath compassed round the Sun; he who upholds apart both Earth and Heaven—from him the Gods, thereon, send forth their ordered creations.

Mantra 26

रोहि॑तो॒ दिव॒मारु॑हन्मह॒तः पर्य॑र्ण॒वात्। सर्वा॑ रुरोह॒ रोहि॑तो॒ रुहः॑

Rohita hath climbed to heaven from over the mighty flood; Rohita hath risen—every rise, every growth, hath he attained.

Mantra 27

वि मि॑मीष्व॒ पय॑स्वतीं घृ॒ताचीं॑ दे॒वानां॑ धे॒नुरन॑पस्पृगे॒षा। इन्द्रः॒ सोमं॑ पिबतु॒ क्षेमो॑ अस्त्व॒ग्निः प्र स्तौ॑तु॒ वि मृधो॑ नुदस्व

Measure forth, in full, this milk-rich, ghee-flowing Cow of the Gods, untouched of taint. Let Indra drink the Soma; let there be security: let Agni chant forth, and drive hostilities away.

Mantra 28

समि॑द्धो अ॒ग्निः स॑मिधा॒नो घृ॒तवृ॑द्धो घृ॒ताहु॑तः । अ॒भी॒षाड् वि॑श्वा॒षाड॒ग्निः स॒पत्ना॑न् हन्तु॒ ये मम॑

Kindled is Agni, kindling still, strengthened with ghee, with ghee oblated. Overpowering, all-subduing—let Agni smite the rivals who are mine.

Mantra 29

हन्त्वे॑ना॒न् प्र द॑ह॒त्वरि॒र्यो नः॑ पृत॒न्यति॑ । क्र॒व्यादा॒ग्निना॑ व॒यं स॒पत्ना॒न् प्र द॑हामसि

Let him slay them; let him burn forth the enemy who makes war on us. With flesh-devouring Agni we burn forth the rivals.

Mantra 30

अ॒वा॒चीना॒नव॑ ज॒हीन्द्र॒ वज्रे॑ण बाहु॒मान्। अधा॑ स॒पत्ना॒न् माम॒कान॒ग्नेस्तेजो॑भि॒रादि॑षि

Smite down the downward-turned, O Indra, with the thunderbolt, thou of mighty arm. Then, by Agni’s fiery energies, do thou overpower the rivals that are mine.

Mantra 31

अग्ने॑ स॒पत्ना॒नध॑रान् पादया॒स्मद् व्य॒थया॑ सजा॒तमु॒त्पिपा॑नं बृहस्पते । इन्द्रा॑ग्नी॒ मित्रा॑वरुणा॒वध॑रे पद्यन्ता॒मप्र॑तिमन्यूयमानाः

O Agni, make the rivals lower; drive them down from us; distress the clansman, though of our own birth, who swells in strength, O Bṛhaspati. Let Indra and Agni, let Mitra and Varuṇa, with wrath unresisted, cause them to go into the lower place.

Mantra 32

उ॒द्यंस्त्वं दे॑व सूर्य स॒पत्ना॒नव॑ मे जहि । अवै॑ना॒नश्म॑ना जहि॒ ते य॑न्त्वध॒मं तमः॑

Rising, O god Sun, smite down my rivals; smite them away—smite them with a stone. Let those men depart into the nethermost darkness.

Mantra 33

व॒त्सो वि॒राजो॑ वृष॒भो म॑ती॒नामा रु॑रोह शु॒क्रपृ॑ष्ठो॒ऽन्तरि॑क्षम्। घृ॒तेना॒र्कम॒भ्यऽर्चन्ति व॒त्सं ब्रह्म॒ सन्तं॒ ब्रह्म॑णा वर्धयन्ति

The calf of Virāj, the bull of prayers, bright-backed, hath mounted up into mid-air. With ghee they chant the hymn toward him: the calf, being very Brahman, by Brahman they make to wax.

Mantra 34

दिवं॑ च॒ रो॑ह पृथि॒वीं च॑ रोह रा॒ष्ट्रं च॒ रोह॒ द्रवि॑णं च रोह । प्र॒जां च॒ रोहा॒मृतं॑ च रोह॒ रोहि॑तेन त॒न्वं॑१ सं स्पृ॑शस्व

Climb thou to heaven, and climb to earth; climb to the realm, climb to wealth. Climb to the folk, climb to immortality: with Rohita touch thy body wholly through.

Mantra 35

ये दे॒वा रा॑ष्ट्रभृतो॒ऽभितो॒ यन्ति॒ सूर्य॑म्। तैष्टे॒ रोहि॑तः संविदा॒नो रा॒ष्ट्रं द॑धातु सुमन॒स्यमा॑नः

Those gods who, bearing up the realm, move round about the Sun—concordant with them let Rohita, well-disposed, establish for thee the kingdom.

Mantra 36

उत् त्वा॑ य॒ज्ञा ब्रह्म॑पूता वहन्त्यध्व॒गतो॒ हर॑यस्त्वा वहन्ति । ति॒रः स॑मु॒द्रमति॑ रोचसेऽर्ण॒वम्

Upward the sacrifices, purified by holy speech, bear thee; the tawny steeds, faring on the road, bear thee. Across the ocean, over the flood, thou shinest forth.

Mantra 37

रोहि॑ते॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी अधि॑ श्रि॒ते व॑सु॒जिति॑ गो॒जिति॑ संधना॒जिति॑ । स॒हस्रं॒ यस्य॒ जनि॑मानि स॒प्त च॑ वो॒चेयं॑ ते॒ नाभिं॒ भुव॑न॒स्याधि॑ म॒ज्मनि॑

O Rohita, on thee are Heaven and Earth established—winner of wealth, winner of kine, winner of firm acquisitions. A thousand are thy births, and seven besides: may I proclaim to thee the navel of the world, set in the midst of majesty.

Mantra 38

य॒शा या॑सि प्र॒दिशो॑ दिश॑श्च य॒शाः प॑शू॒नामु॒त च॑र्षणी॒नाम्। य॒शाः पृ॑थि॒व्या अदि॑त्या उ॒पस्थे॒ऽहं भू॑यासं सवि॒तेव॒ चारुः॑

With glory thou goest through the fore-regions and the quarters; glorious among cattle and among the peoples. Glorious in Earth’s—Aditi’s—lap, may I become, like Savitar, fair and gracious.

Mantra 39

अ॒मुत्र॒ सन्नि॒ह वे॑त्थे॒तः संस्तानि॑ पश्यसि । इ॒तः प॑श्यन्ति रोच॒नं दि॒वि सूर्यं॑ विप॒श्चित॑म्

Yonder, being there, thou knowest; from hence thou beholdest the things set in order. From hence men behold the shining realm—in heaven—the Sun, the all-discerning.

Mantra 40

दे॒वो दे॒वान् म॑र्चयस्य॒न्तश्च॑रस्यर्ण॒वे। स॒मा॒नम॒ग्निमि॑न्धते॒ तं वि॑दुः क॒वयः॒ परे॑

A god, thou makest the gods to shine; within the flood thou movest. One and the same Fire they kindle: him the seers of old have known.

Mantra 41

अ॒वः परे॑ण प॒र ए॒नाव॑रेण प॒दा व॒त्सं बिब्र॑ती॒ गौरुद॑स्थात्। सा क॒द्रीची॒ कं स्वि॒दर्धं॒ परा॑गा॒त् क्वऽस्वित् सूते न॒हि यू॒थे अ॒स्मिन्

Downward with the farther, farther thus with the nearer foot, bearing her calf, the Cow hath risen up. Whither, pray, hath she gone—what portion hath departed? Where, pray, doth she calve? for she is not within this herd.

Mantra 42

एक॑पदी द्वि॒पदी॒ सा चतु॑ष्पद्य॒ष्टाप॑दी॒ नव॑पदी बभू॒वुषी॑ । स॒हस्रा॑क्षरा॒ भुव॑नस्य प॒ङ्क्तिस्तस्याः॑ समु॒द्रा अधि॒ वि क्ष॑रन्ति

One-footed, two-footed—she became four-footed; eight-footed, nine-footed she became. Thousand-syllabled is the Paṅkti of the world: upon her the oceans, spreading, pour themselves abroad.

Mantra 43

आ॒रोह॒न् द्याम॒मृतः॒ प्राव॑ मे॒ वचः॑ । उत् त्वा॑ य॒ज्ञा ब्रह्म॑पूता वहन्त्यध्व॒गतो॒ हर॑यस्त्वा वहन्ति

Ascending unto heaven, the Immortal hath advanced my utterance. Upward the sacrifices, purified by holy speech, bear thee; the tawny steeds, faring on their road, bear thee along.

Mantra 44

वेद॒ तत् ते अमर्त्य॒ यत् त॑ आ॒क्रम॑णं दि॒वि। यत् ते॑ स॒धस्थं॑ पर॒मे व्योऽमन्

He knoweth this of thee, O Immortal—thy stride in heaven; and he knoweth thy seat in the highest firmament.

Mantra 45

सूर्यो॒ द्यां सूर्यः॑ पृथि॒वीं सूर्य॒ आपोऽति॑ पश्यति । सूर्यो॑ भू॒तस्यैकं॒ चक्षु॒रा रु॑रोह॒ दिवं॑ म॒हीम्

The Sun beholdeth heaven; the Sun beholdeth earth; the Sun beholdeth, passing over, the waters. The Sun, the single eye of all that is, hath mounted up to heaven, the mighty.

Mantra 46

उ॒र्वीरा॑सन् परि॒धयो॒ वेदि॒र्भूमि॑रकल्पत । तत्रै॒ताव॒ग्नी आध॑त्त हि॒मं घ्रं॒सं च॒ रोहि॑तः

Broad were the enclosing bounds; the earth was fashioned as an altar. There Rohita set the two Fires in place—cold and heat, the glow as well.

Mantra 47

हि॒मं घ्रं॒सं चा॒धाय॒ यूपा॑न् कृ॒त्वा पर्व॑तान्। व॒र्षाज्या॑व॒ग्नी ई॑जाते॒ रोहि॑तस्य स्व॒र्विदः॑

Having set in place the Frost and the Glow, having made the sacrificial posts into mountains, the two Fires—Rain and Ghee for their oblation—perform the worship for Rohita, the Heaven-finder.

Mantra 48

स्व॒र्विदो॒ रोहि॑तस्य॒ ब्रह्म॑णा॒ग्निः समि॑ध्यते । तस्मा॑द् घ्रं॒सस्तस्मा॑द्धि॒मस्तस्मा॑द् य॒ज्ञोऽजायत

By sacred brahman is Agni kindled for Rohita, the Heaven-finder: from him sprang the Glow, from him the Frost, from him was sacrifice brought to birth.

Mantra 49

ब्रह्म॑णा॒ग्नी वा॑वृधा॒नौ ब्रह्म॑वृद्धौ॒ ब्रह्मा॑हुतौ । ब्रह्मे॑द्धाव॒ग्नी ई॑जाते॒ रोहि॑तस्य स्व॒र्विदः॑

The two Fires, waxing by brahman—brahman-strengthened, with brahman for their oblation, brahman-kindled—perform the worship for Rohita, the Heaven-finder.

Mantra 50

स॒त्ये अ॒न्यः स॒माहि॑तो॒ऽप्स्व॑१न्यः समि॑ध्यते । ब्रह्मे॑द्धाव॒ग्नी ई॑जाते॒ रोहि॑तस्य स्व॒र्विदः॑

One is set in the True; the other is kindled in the Waters. The two Fires, kindled by brahman, perform the worship for Rohita, the Heaven-finder.

Mantra 51

यं वातः॑ परि॒ शुम्भ॑ति॒ यं वेन्द्रो॒ ब्रह्म॑ण॒स्पतिः॑ । ब्रह्मे॑द्धाव॒ग्नी ई॑जाते॒ रोहि॑तस्य स्व॒र्विदः॑

Whom the Wind makes splendid round about, whom Indra—yea, the Lord of Prayer—upholds: the two Fires, kindled by brahman, perform the worship for Rohita, the Heaven-finder.

Mantra 52

वेदिं॒ भूमिं॑ कल्पयि॒त्वा दिवं॑ कृ॒त्वा दक्षि॑णाम्। घ्रं॒सं तद॒ग्निं कृ॒त्वा च॒कार॒ विश्व॑मात्म॒न्वद् व॒र्षेणाज्ये॑न॒ रोहि॑तः

Having ordered the Earth as altar, and having made Heaven the right-hand side, having made the Sun-glow to be that Fire, Rohita with rain and with clarified butter fashioned the All, endowed with vital self.

Mantra 53

व॒र्षमाज्यं॑ घ्रं॒सो अ॒ग्निर्वेदि॒र्भूमि॑रकल्पत । तत्रै॒वान् पर्व॑तान॒ग्निर्गी॒र्भिरू॒र्ध्वाँ अ॑कल्पयत्

Rain became the clarified butter; the Sun-glow became the Fire; Earth became the altar. Therein, even there, Agni with sacred utterances set the mountains upright.

Mantra 54

गी॒र्भिरू॒र्ध्वान् क॑ल्पयि॒त्वा रोहि॑तो॒ भूमि॑मब्रवीत्। त्वयी॒दं सर्वं॑ जायतां॒ यद् भू॒तं यच्च॑ भा॒व्यऽम्

Having with sacred utterances set them upright, Rohita spake unto Earth: ‘In thee let all this be born—what hath been, and what shall yet be.’

Mantra 55

स य॒ज्ञः प्र॑थ॒मो भू॒तो भव्यो॑ अजायत । तस्मा॑द्ध जज्ञ इ॒दं सर्वं॒ यत् किं चे॒दं वि॒रोच॑ते॒ रोहि॑तेन॒ ऋषि॒णाभृ॑तम्

That Sacrifice, first arisen—both what hath been and what shall be—was born. From it, indeed, was born all this, whatsoever here shines forth, brought hither by Rohita, the Seer.

Mantra 56

यश्च॒ गां प॒दा स्फु॒रति॑ प्र॒त्यङ् सूर्यं॑ च॒ मेह॑ति । तस्य॑ वृश्चामि ते॒ मूलं॒ न च्छा॒यां क॑र॒वोऽप॑रम्

Whoso with his foot spurneth the cow, and, turned perversely, maketh water toward the Sun—his root do I cut off; nor will I leave him even a shadow further.

Mantra 57

यो मा॑भिच्छा॒यम॒त्येषि॒ मां चा॒ग्निं चा॑न्त॒रा। तस्य॑ वृश्चामि ते॒ मूलं॒ न च्छा॒यां क॑र॒वोऽप॑रम्

Whoso with baleful shadow would overpass me, and would come between me and Agni,—his very root do I hew away; nor shall I suffer that shadow to be made again.

Mantra 58

यो अ॒द्य दे॑व सूर्य॒ त्वां च॒ मां चा॑न्त॒राय॑ति । दु॒ष्वप्न्यं॒ तस्मिं॒छम॑लं दुरि॒तानि॑ च मृज्महे

Whoever to-day, O god Sūrya, would set himself between thee and me,—the evil dreaming, the foul taint in him, and the miseries besides, we wipe away.

Mantra 59

मा प्र गा॑म प॒थो व॒यं मा य॒ज्ञादि॑न्द्र सो॒मिनः॑ । मान्त स्थु॑र्नो॒ अरा॑तयः

Let us not stray forth from the path; let us not, O Indra, Soma-men, fall away from the sacrifice. Let not the ill-wishers stand within us.

Mantra 60

यो य॒ज्ञस्य॑ प्र॒साध॑न॒स्तन्तु॑र्दे॒वेष्वात॑तः । तमाहु॑तमशीमहि

He who is the sacrifice’s furtherance, the thread stretched out among the gods,—that offered power would we attain and enjoy.
