Then the Lord, rejoicing, embraced Shatrughna and pressed him to his heart. Thereupon Lakshmana and Bharata met as well—two brothers joined in the highest love.
Verse 25 (चौपाई)

Bharata’s younger brother Lakshmana embraced him again, and the unbearable grief born of separation was wiped away. Bharata bowed his head at Sita’s feet, and with his younger brothers found supreme joy. Seeing the Lord, the townsfolk rejoiced; every calamity produced by their long parting vanished. All, distressed with love, kept gazing; the compassionate slayer of Khara worked a marvel. At that moment immeasurable forms appeared, and the merciful Lord met each one as befitted them. With a glance of grace from heroic Raghuvira, every man and woman was made free of sorrow. In an instant the Lord met them all—O Uma, none understands this mystery. Thus Rama made everyone happy and moved on, the very abode of courtesy and virtue. Then Kausalya and the other mothers ran forward; seeing their child, they lowed like cows calling to their calves.

As a cow, forced away from her calf and home to graze in the forest, at day’s end turns toward the town—her udders dripping—and, lowing aloud, comes running: so did all the mothers, in overflowing love, embrace their sons and speak gentle words in many ways. The cruel anguish born of separation departed, and they obtained immeasurable joy and delight.

Sumitra met her son, knowing his heart’s devotion to Rama’s feet. But when Kaikeyi met Rama, she was deeply abashed within. Lakshmana met all the mothers together and, rejoicing, received their blessings; yet toward Kaikeyi he met again and again, and the agitation of his heart would not subside.

All the elder ladies (the mothers-in-law’s side) came together to meet Vaidehī; she bowed at their feet, and they were filled with exceeding joy. They gave their blessings and asked after her welfare: “May your auspicious married fortune remain ever unbroken.” All gazed upon the lotus-face of Raghupati; recognizing it as the very sign of good fortune, they could not restrain their tears. They performed ārati with golden trays, and again and again looked upon the Lord’s limbs. In many ways they waved offerings in loving propitiation, their hearts brimming with supreme bliss. Kausalyā, time and again, looked upon Raghubīr—the ocean of compassion, the hero of battle. In her heart she pondered repeatedly: “In what manner did he slay the lord of Laṅkā? My pair is so tender and delicate—while the demon-champions were mighty and strong.”
Verse 29 (दोहा/सोरठा)

The Mother, beholding the Lord together with Lakshmaṇa and Sītā, was absorbed in supreme bliss; again and again her whole frame thrilled with rapture.
Verse 30 (चौपाई)

The lord of Laṅkā, the lord of the monkeys, Nala and Nīla, Jāmbavān and noble Angada; Hanumān and all the other heroic monkeys—assuming charming human forms— Bharata, with love, virtue, vows, and disciplined observances, lovingly described them all with reverence. Seeing the ways of the townsfolk, all praised their love for the Lord’s feet. Then Raghupati called all his companions and instructed them: “Bow at the sage’s feet.” “Guru Vasiṣṭha is our family’s revered preceptor; by his grace the demons were slain in battle. O friends, listen to my sage: when did you ever become an ocean of war? For my good you have spent your very births; to me you are dearer even than Bharata.” Hearing the Lord’s words, all were absorbed in delight; at every moment new happiness arose.

Again they bowed their heads at Kausalyā’s feet. Rejoicing, she bestowed her blessing: “You are dear to me as Raghunāth himself.” A shower of flowers made the sky dense; the Source of joy proceeded to the palace. Men and women in crowds climbed to the terraces to behold the city’s spectacle.
Verse 32 (चौपाई)

They adorned wondrous golden vessels and, duly prepared, set them at their respective doorways. They made festoons, flags, and banners—each for the sake of auspiciousness. All the streets were sprinkled with fragrance, and many courtyards were filled with ritual floor-designs. In diverse ways they arranged auspicious decorations; in joy, many ceremonial drums resounded through the city. Here and there women waved offerings and gave blessings, their hearts full of delight. With golden trays they performed many forms of ārati; adorned young women sang auspicious songs. They offered ārati to the Remover of distress, the sun to the lotus-grove of the Raghu line. The city’s splendor, prosperity, and well-being—even the Vedas, Śeṣa, and Sāradā proclaim. Seeing this sacred episode, even they remain amazed; O Umā, how could mere humans tell all his virtues?
Verse 33 (दोहा/सोरठा)

The women of Ayodhya were like night-lilies in the lake of the city; the sun of their separation from the Lord of Raghu had set, and, beholding Rama—the moon—they blossomed. Auspicious omens appeared in many ways; celestial drums resounded in the sky. Making the men and women of the city feel once more protected and possessed of their rightful lord, Bhagavan proceeded toward the palace.

Knowing that Kaikeyi was ashamed, Bhavani first went to her house; she instructed her and gave her great comfort, and then Hari returned to His own dwelling. When the ocean of compassion reached the palace, all the men and women of the city became happy. Guru Vasistha summoned the brahmins, for today a fair and auspicious day had gathered. ‘All you brahmins, joyfully grant your sanction,’ (he said), and Ramachandra sat upon the throne. The words of sage Vasistha were gracious; hearing them, all the brahmins were greatly pleased. Many brahmins spoke softly: ‘Let there be Rama’s consecration—Rama, the delight of the whole world. O best of sages, delay no longer; perform the royal tilak for the Maharaja.’

Then the sage spoke to Sumantra; hearing, he went forth rejoicing. At once he had many chariots, horses, and elephants made ready. He dispatched runners in every direction and had auspicious materials brought. Then, with joy, he returned and bowed his head again at Vasistha’s feet.

Ayodhya was made exceedingly beautiful; the gods brought down a shower of flowers. Rama summoned the servants and said, ‘Go first and have my friends bathed.’ Hearing this, people ran in every direction, and Sugriva and the rest were bathed at once. Then the treasury of compassion called Bharata; with His own hands Rama removed his matted locks. The Lord had all three brothers bathed—Raghuraya, gracious and tender to His devotees. Bharata’s good fortune and the Lord’s gentleness—Sesha with a hundred million mouths could not sing them fully. Then Rama loosened his own locks; seeking the guru’s sanction, He bathed. After bathing, the Lord put on ornaments; seeing the beauty of His limbs, even Ananga was greatly abashed.

With due honor the mothers-in-law had Janaki bathed at once; divine garments and excellent ornaments were arranged, adorning every limb. At Rama’s left shone Rama (Lakshmi)—a treasury of beauty and virtues. Seeing her, all the mothers rejoiced and deemed their own birth fulfilled. Listen, O lord of birds: at that moment Brahma, Shiva, and hosts of sages—indeed all the gods—came in aerial cars to behold the source of bliss.

Beholding the Lord, the sages’ hearts filled with love; at once they called for a celestial throne. His sunlike radiance cannot be described; Rama sat, and the Brahmins bowed their heads. With Janaka’s daughter beside Raghu’s king, seeing Him the whole company of sages exulted. Then the Brahmins uttered Vedic mantras; in the sky gods and seers cried, “Victory, victory!” First sage Vasiṣṭha applied the consecrating tilak; then he gave instructions to all the Brahmins. The mother, seeing her son, rejoiced; again and again she waved the āratī. The Brahmins bestowed gifts in many ways, making even all beggars ‘non-beggars’ (fully satisfied). On the throne sat the Lord of the three worlds; seeing this, the gods sounded their festive drums.
Verse 39 (छंद)

In the sky the great drums resounded; gandharvas and kinnars sang. Companies of apsaras danced, and gods and sages tasted perfect bliss. Bharata and the younger brothers—Vibhishana, Angada, and Hanuman with the rest—stood together, Holding parasols, flywhisks and fans, bows, swords, shields and spears, shining in attendance. (1) With Sita beside Him, the ornament of the Solar line appeared in a beauty that outshone even Love. His noble form, like a new rain-cloud, and His yellow garments enchanted the minds of the gods. Crown, armlets and other wondrous ornaments adorned every limb; Lotus-eyed, broad-chested, mighty-armed—blessed are the people who behold Him. (2)
Verse 40 (दोहा/सोरठा)

That splendor and the joy of that assembly cannot be told, O Garuda. Saraswati, Shesha, and the Vedas themselves describe it—yet only Mahesha knows its full relish. (12a) After offering varied praises, the gods departed to their several abodes; Then the Vedas came there to Sri Rama in the guise of bards. (12b) The omniscient Lord, treasure of mercy, received them with great honor; Yet none could fathom their inner purpose—He set them to singing His virtues. (12c)

Victory to You—of form and beyond form, with attributes and without; matchless, crown-jewel of kings. You struck down the mighty night-stalkers and fierce villains, Ravana and the rest, with the strength of Your arms. You took human birth to lighten the world’s burden and burn away dreadful sorrow. Hail, compassionate Lord, protector of the bowed; we bow to You, united with all power. (1) Your formidable māyā has seized gods and demons, serpents, humans, even the moving and unmoving world. Wandering the path of becoming through endless days and nights, creatures are filled with time, karma, and the guṇas. But those on whom You cast a merciful glance are freed from the threefold pain. O Rama, skilled in cutting the grief of existence—protect us; we bow to You. (2) Those intoxicated with the pride of knowledge, who do not honor devotion that destroys rebirth, Even if they attain stations rare for the gods, we see them fall. But those who trust You, abandon all other hopes, and remain Your servants, Cross the ocean of becoming without strain by repeating Your Name—O Lord, we remember and bow. (3) Your feet are worshiped by Shiva and Brahma; the holy dust that touched the sage’s wife made her cross. From Your toenail sprang the celestial river, praised by sages, purifier of the three worlds. Marked with banner, thunderbolt, goad, and lotus—why should thorns trouble one who roams the forest with You? To that pair of lotus-feet—Rama, Mukunda, Lord of Lakshmi—we ever adore. (4) We bow to the tree of the world: unmanifest at its root, beginningless; Its bark is the four Vedas and Āgamas; its six trunks, its branches, the twenty-five principles; its leaves and blossoms innumerable. Its fruits are of two kinds—bitter and sweet; and the vine that clings to it, solitary, is the one on which beings depend. Ever new it sprouts and flowers—this world-tree we bow to. (5) Even those who meditate on Brahman—unborn, non-dual, known only by direct experience— They too, O Lord, we understand, continually sing Your Saguna glory. O refuge of compassion, mine of true virtues—this boon the gods beg: Casting away the taints of mind, speech, and deed, may we love Your feet. (6)

Before all, the Vedas made their generous supplication; Then they vanished from sight and returned to Brahma’s abode. (13a) Listen, O Garuda: then Shambhu came to where Raghu’s hero was, Offering humble entreaty, his voice choking with love, his body thrilled with rapture. (13b)

Victory to Rama—delight of Śrī, the assuager (of all woes). Protect the people who are tormented by worldly heat and shaken by fear. O Lord of Ayodhya, Lord of the gods, Lord of Lakshmi, all-pervading Master—protect the refuge-seeker who begs at Your door. (1) Destroyer of the ten-headed one, the twenty-armed; You removed the great and manifold afflictions from the earth. The hosts of night-rangers became like moths, burned in the fierce fire of Your arrows. (2) Ornament of the whole earth, most lovely; bearing arrow, bow, and noble quiver. Your radiance is a sun-army that scatters the massed darkness—the night of pride, delusion, and great possessiveness. (3) You strike down the hunter called Desire, and the herd of creatures, wounded by vile enjoyments, flee with hearts in pain. O Hari, protect the helpless who have lost their Lord, and those who, base and bewildered, have strayed into the forest of sense-objects. (4) Many suffer sickness and separation—this is the fruit of scorning Your feet. Men fall into the fathomless ocean of becoming, who do not cultivate love for Your lotus-feet. (5) Ever wretched, stained, and sorrowful are they who have no love for Your lotus-feet. But those whose support is Your story—endless saints are ever dear to them. (6) They have no passion, greed, pride, or intoxication; for them, prosperity and adversity are alike. Therefore Your servants are glad; even sages abandon mere yoga, trusting always in You. (7) With unbroken love, keeping steady vows, they serve the lotus-feet with purified hearts. Counting dishonor as honor alike, all saints move about the earth in happiness. (8) The bee of the sage’s mind drinks the lotus—Raghuvira, unconquered, mighty hero in battle. I repeat Your Name and bow to You, O Hari—foe of pride, the great medicine for the disease of worldly existence. (9) Abode of virtues, good conduct, and compassion—I continually salute the Beloved of Śrī. O joy of the Raghus, cutter of the dense cloud of dualities—O King, look upon the poor and lowly. (10)
bāra bāra bara māgaũ harakhi dehu śrīraṅga | pada-saroja anapāyanī bhagati sadā sat-saṅga ||14(ka)||
Again and again I beg this boon—grant it joyfully, O Lord of Śrī: unwavering devotion to Your lotus-feet, and ever the fellowship of the holy. (14a)
