Sukta 67

Mantra 1

त्यान्नु क्षत्रियाँ अव आदित्यान्याचिषामहे । सुमृळीकाँ अभिष्टये ॥

Now we ask for the protection of those royal powers, the Ādityas, that are gracious and well-disposed—so that our seeking may attain its desired fulfillment under the law of the Truth.

Mantra 2

मित्रो नो अत्यंहतिं वरुणः पर्षदर्यमा । आदित्यासो यथा विदुः ॥

May Mitra carry us beyond the narrowness and distress; may Varuṇa and Aryaman lead us across—so that the Ādityas, as they know the law, establish for us the safe passage into wideness.

Mantra 3

तेषां हि चित्रमुक्थ्यं वरूथमस्ति दाशुषे । आदित्यानामरंकृते ॥

For theirs is a bright and speakable protection, a shelter that answers the hymn, for the giver who offers rightly—of the Ādityas who are ready to act and sufficient in their ordering power.

Mantra 4

महि वो महतामवो वरुण मित्रार्यमन् । अवांस्या वृणीमहे ॥

Great is your great protection, O Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman. We choose and accept your shelters—so that the vast law may stand over us and the straight path be secured.

Mantra 5

जीवान्नो अभि धेतनादित्यासः पुरा हथात् । कद्ध स्थ हवनश्रुतः ॥

O Ādityas, set us firmly in the state of living fullness; guard us beforehand from the blow of the slayer. Where indeed are you, you who hear the call?

Mantra 6

यद्वः श्रान्ताय सुन्वते वरूथमस्ति यच्छर्दिः । तेना नो अधि वोचत ॥

Whatever your shelter is for the weary presser of Soma, whatever your protecting cover—by that, speak over us and establish us in safety.

Mantra 7

अस्ति देवा अंहोरुर्वस्ति रत्नमनागसः । आदित्या अद्भुतैनसः ॥

There is, O gods, a wide expanse beyond distress; there is a treasure of blamelessness—O Ādityas of wondrous power to dissolve sin.

Mantra 8

मा नः सेतुः सिषेदयं महे वृणक्तु नस्परि । इन्द्र इद्धि श्रुतो वशी ॥

Let not this bridge for us be cut away; may it choose and encompass us for the great passage. For Indra indeed is the heard-of, the master of power.

Mantra 9

मा नो मृचा रिपूणां वृजिनानामविष्यवः । देवा अभि प्र मृक्षत ॥

Let not the harm of the hostile, the crooked-doers, reach us; O gods, sweep them away from around us and drive them off.

Mantra 10

उत त्वामदिते मह्यहं देव्युप ब्रुवे । सुमृळीकामभिष्टये ॥

And you, O vast Aditi, I approach with my word, O goddess—gracious and full of healing kindness—for the fulfilment of the soul’s seeking.

Mantra 11

पर्षि दीने गभीर आँ उग्रपुत्रे जिघांसतः । माकिस्तोकस्य नो रिषत् ॥

Carry us across in the low and in the deep; O daughter of the mighty, from those who would strike us down. Let none harm our child-soul, our lineage of becoming.

Mantra 12

अनेहो न उरुव्रज उरूचि वि प्रसर्तवे । कृधि तोकाय जीवसे ॥

Make for us a wide, unhastening free-range; O wide-shining one, for moving out in full expansion. Do it for our child-soul to live.

Mantra 13

ये मूर्धानः क्षितीनामदब्धासः स्वयशसः । व्रता रक्षन्ते अद्रुहः ॥

They who are the head-tops of the worlds, unbetrayable, self-glorious—who guard the laws (vrata) without treachery.

Mantra 14

ते न आस्नो वृकाणामादित्यासो मुमोचत । स्तेनं बद्धमिवादिते ॥

May those Ādityas release us from the jaws of the wolves, as one frees a bound thief—O Aditi—so may they loosen the bonds that seize the soul.

Mantra 15

अपो षु ण इयं शरुरादित्या अप दुर्मतिः । अस्मदेत्वजघ्नुषी ॥

Let this hostile dart be driven away from us, O Ādityas; let the evil-turned thought depart from our being—she that strikes down (the right movement).

Mantra 16

शश्वद्धि वः सुदानव आदित्या ऊतिभिर्वयम् । पुरा नूनं बुभुज्महे ॥

For ever, O well-giving Ādityas, we have enjoyed your help—both in the ancient past and even now; your guardianship is continuous in our growth.

Mantra 17

शश्वन्तं हि प्रचेतसः प्रतियन्तं चिदेनसः । देवाः कृणुथ जीवसे ॥

O gods of clear intelligence, make us fit for life—ever returning (to the right), even if there is fault; shape in us the power to live in the truth.

Mantra 18

तत्सु नो नव्यं सन्यस आदित्या यन्मुमोचति । बन्धाद्बद्धमिवादिते ॥

That is for us the ever-new attainment, O Ādityas: that you release, O Aditi, the bound being from its bondage—as one unfastens what is tied.

Mantra 19

नास्माकमस्ति तत्तर आदित्यासो अतिष्कदे । यूयमस्मभ्यं मृळत ॥

There is none beyond that for us, O Ādityas, when danger overleaps; you—do you show mercy to us and set us in safety.

Mantra 20

मा नो हेतिर्विवस्वत आदित्याः कृत्रिमा शरुः । पुरा नु जरसो वधीत् ॥

Let not the weapon of Vivasvat strike us, O Ādityas—nor the fashioned hostile dart; let it not smite us before our time, before we have ripened beyond old age’s pressure.

Mantra 21

वि षु द्वेषो व्यंहतिमादित्यासो वि संहितम् । विष्वग्वि वृहता रपः ॥

Scatter far away hatred and distress, O Ādityas; break apart what is compacted and knotted; drive off in all directions the oppressive affliction.
