Gāyatrī
ఋగ్వేదం 3.12లో జంట దేవతలైన ఇంద్రుడు–అగ్ని (ఇంద్రాగ్నీ)లను ఆహ్వానిస్తూ—వారు తాజాగా పిండిన సోమం వద్దకు వచ్చి, గాయకుల స్తుతిని స్వీకరించి, ఉపాసకునికి బలం, పోషణ, విజయం ప్రసాదించాలని కోరుతుంది. ఈ సూక్తం ఇంద్రుని వీరశక్తిని అగ్నியின் యాజ్ఞిక అగ్నిశక్తితో సమ్మేళనం చేసి, దైవశక్తిని ఉపాసకునికి ‘దృశ్యంగా’ మరియు ఫలప్రదంగా చేసే సమన్విత శక్తిగా వారిని చిత్రిస్తుంది.

Mantra 1
इन्द्राग्नी आ गतं सुतं गीर्भिर्नभो वरेण्यम् । अस्य पातं धियेषिता ॥
హే ఇంద్రా-అగ్నీ, పిండిన సోమం వద్దకు రండి—మా గీతులతో ఆహ్వానింపబడిన వరణీయ ‘నభస్’ (ఉన్నతి) వైపు. ఈ సోమాన్ని పానంచేయండి, ధియా చేత ప్రేరితులై—జాగృత సంకల్పంతో.

इन्द्राग्नी जरितुः सचा यज्ञो जिगाति चेतनः । अया पातमिमं सुतम् ॥
హే ఇంద్రా-అగ్నీ, జరితృ (స్తుతికర్త)తో కలిసి జాగృత యజ్ఞం మీ వద్దకు వస్తుంది. ఈ మార్గమునే ఈ పిండిన సోమాన్ని పానంచేయండి—మా చైతన్య అర్పణలో ప్రవేశించి.

इन्द्रमग्निं कविच्छदा यज्ञस्य जूत्या वृणे । ता सोमस्येह तृम्पताम् ॥
యజ్ఞం వేగంగా ముందుకు సాగుటకై, కవియొక్క ప్రకాశంతో ఆవరితులైన ఇంద్రుడు–అగ్నిని నేను వరిస్తున్నాను. ఆ ఇద్దరూ ఇక్కడ సోమానందంతో తృప్తి పొందుగాక.

तोशा वृत्रहणा हुवे सजित्वानापराजिता । इन्द्राग्नी वाजसातमा ॥
హర్షధ్వనితో నేను వృత్రహంతులను ఆహ్వానిస్తున్నాను—సహవిజేతలు, అపరాజితులు—ఇంద్రాగ్నిని; వారు బలసంపదలలో అత్యంత విజయదాయకులు.

प्र वामर्चन्त्युक्थिनो नीथाविदो जरितारः । इन्द्राग्नी इष आ वृणे ॥
ఉక్థాన్ని పాడే గాయకులు, ముందుండి నడిపించే మార్గాలను తెలిసిన జరితారులు మిమ్మల్ని స్తుతిస్తారు, ఓ ఇంద్రాగ్నీ. నేను నా కొరకు మీ ‘ఇష్’—పోషణమూ దివ్యవృద్ధినీ ప్రేరేపించే శక్తిని—వరిస్తున్నాను.

इन्द्राग्नी नवतिं पुरो दासपत्नीरधूनुतम् । साकमेकेन कर्मणा ॥
ఓ ఇంద్రా, అగ్నీ! ఒకే సంయుక్త కర్మతో మీరు దాస-శత్రువుల అధీనంలోని తొంభై పురాలను (కోటలను) కుదిపి కూల్చితిరి; కలిసి శత్రు శక్తుల దృఢమైన ఆవరణ-బంధనాలను విరిచితిరి—ప్రకాశం స్వేచ్ఛగా సాగుటకై.

इन्द्राग्नी अपसस्पर्युप प्र यन्ति धीतयः । ऋतस्य पथ्या अनु ॥
ఓ ఇంద్రా, అగ్నీ! ప్రేరిత ధీతులు (అంతఃప్రేరిత ఆలోచనలు) కర్మాన్ని పరివేష్టించి ముందుకు, పైకి సాగుతాయి; అవి ఋత మార్గాలను అనుసరించి, సత్య-వ్యవస్థ యొక్క నిజమైన గమనాన్ని అనుసరిస్తూ ముందుకు పోతాయి.

इन्द्राग्नी तविषाणि वां सधस्थानि प्रयांसि च । युवोरप्तूर्यं हितम् ॥
ఓ ఇంద్రా, అగ్నీ! మీవే ఆ మహా బలాలు, ఆ సామాన్య అధిష్ఠానాలు, ఆ ముందుకు సాగే ప్రయాణాలు; మీలోనే స్థాపితమై ఉంది ఆ వేగవంతమైన, ఫలప్రదమైన ప్రేరణ—అది కర్మాన్ని పరిపూర్ణత (సిద్ధి) వరకు చేర్చుతుంది.

इन्द्राग्नी रोचना दिवः परि वाजेषु भूषथः । तद्वां चेति प्र वीर्यम् ॥
ఇంద్రా, అగ్నీ! దివః యొక్క రోచనా—స్వర్గంలోని దీప్తిమయ ప్రాంతాల చుట్టూ—వాజ (బల-సంపదలు) మధ్య మీరు శోభతో పరిభ్రమిస్తారు. దానివల్ల మీ వీర్యం—వీర-పరాక్రమం—ప్రకటమవుతుంది.

Indrāgnī is the paired form of Indra and Agni worshipped together—Indra as the force of victory and Agni as the sacred fire that carries offerings. The hymn treats them as one coordinated power in the ritual.
It asks them to come to the freshly pressed Soma, drink it, listen to the hymns, and grant nourishment (iṣ), strength or winning power (vāja), and clear heroic potency (vīrya) to the worshipper.
