This hymn is an ardent invitation to Indra to come swiftly on his chariot to the Soma-pressing and take his seat on the strewn barhis, joining the sacrificers as a beloved ally. It praises Indra as the battle-winning, Vṛtra-slaying lord of power and wealth, and asks him to become protector, kingly leader, and inspirer of seerhood through Soma. The hymn’s purpose is both ritual (drawing Indra to drink and empower the rite) and existential (securing victory, abundance, and inspired vision).

आ याह्यर्वाङुप वन्धुरेष्ठास्तवेदनु प्रदिवः सोमपेयम् । प्रिया सखाया वि मुचोप बर्हिस्त्वामिमे हव्यवाहो हवन्ते ॥
आ जाओ हमारे पास, हमारी तरफ मोड़ के। अपनी गाड़ी पर बैठो और आसमान के रास्ते से सोम पीने के लिए चलो। प्यारे दोस्तो, आसन बिछा दो। यह सब जो हवन कर रहे हैं, वो तुम्हे बुला रहे हैं।

आ याहि पूर्वीरति चर्षणीराँ अर्य आशिष उप नो हरिभ्याम् । इमा हि त्वा मतयः स्तोमतष्टा इन्द्र हवन्ते सख्यं जुषाणाः ॥
आ जाओ, इतनी सारी जनता को पीछे छोड़ के। आ जाओ, बड़े हो, अपने घोड़ों के साथ, हमारी दुआओं के पास। हमारी यह सोचें जो गातों में बदल गई हैं, वो तुम्हे बुला रही हैं, इंद्र। यह तुम्हारी दोस्ती चाहती हैं।

आ नो यज्ञं नमोवृधं सजोषा इन्द्र देव हरिभिर्याहि तूयम् । अहं हि त्वा मतिभिर्जोहवीमि घृतप्रयाः सधमादे मधूनाम् ॥
हमारी पूजा में आ जाओ जो लोगों के नम से बढ़ती है। देवता इंद्र, जल्दी आ जाओ अपने घोड़ों के साथ। मैं तुम्हे बार बार बुला रहा हूँ अपनी सोच से। मिठाई और घी जैसी चीज़ों के साथ आ जाओ।

आ च त्वामेता वृषणा वहातो हरी सखाया सुधुरा स्वङ्गा । धानावदिन्द्रः सवनं जुषाणः सखा सख्युः शृणवद्वन्दनानि ॥
यह दो घोड़े, जो तुम्हारे प्यारे दोस्त हैं, अच्छे से जुड़े हैं और ताकतवर हैं। यह तुम्हे यहाँ ला रहे हैं। इंद्र, अन्न से भरा हुआ, इस पूजा को अक्सेप्ट करो। दोस्त की तरह, हमारी प्रार्थना सुनो।

कुविन्मा गोपां करसे जनस्य कुविद्राजानं मघवन्नृजीषिन् । कुविन्म ऋषिं पपिवांसं सुतस्य कुविन्मे वस्वो अमृतस्य शिक्षाः ॥
क्या तुम मेरी तरफ से लोगों की हिफ़ाज़त करोगे? क्या तुम मेरा राजा बनोगे, बड़े हो, जो सीधी ताकत चलाते हो? क्या तुम मुझे रिशि बनाओगे, जो सोम पी चुका है? क्या तुम मुझे वो धन सिखाओगे जो कभी खत्म नहीं होता?

आ त्वा बृहन्तो हरयो युजाना अर्वागिन्द्र सधमादो वहन्तु । प्र ये द्विता दिव ऋञ्जन्त्याताः सुसम्मृष्टासो वृषभस्य मूराः ॥
इंद्र के लिए बड़े तेज़ घोड़े जुड़े हैं। यह घोड़े इंद्र को यहाँ लाएँ, हमारी पूजा में शामिल होने के लिए। यह आसमान से आते हैं, तेज़ी से दौड़ते हैं। इंद्र की ताकत के लिए तैयार हैं। इन घोड़ों से इंद्र हमारे पास आए।

इन्द्र पिब वृषधूतस्य वृष्ण आ यं ते श्येन उशते जभार । यस्य मदे च्यावयसि प्र कृष्टीर्यस्य मदे अप गोत्रा ववर्थ ॥
इंद्र, यह सोम रस पियो। यह रस रिशियों ने तैयार किया है, एक बाज़ ने लाया है। इस रस के नशे में तुम लोगों को आगे बढ़ा देते हो। तुम वो बंधन तोड़ देते हो जो रोशनी को रोकता है। यह सब इंद्र की ताकत है।

शुनं हुवेम मघवानमिन्द्रमस्मिन्भरे नृतमं वाजसातौ । शृण्वन्तमुग्रमूतये समत्सु घ्नन्तं वृत्राणि संजितं धनानाम् ॥
हम खुशी से इंद्र को बुलाते हैं। वो बहुत देता है, लड़ाई में मदद करता है। वो हमारी बात सुनता है, जंग में हमारे साथ होता है। दुश्मनों को हराता है, धन जीतता है। इंद्र सब कुछ जीत लेता है।
