Encompass us, warding off harms, as a charioteer avoids the hard passages. May we be in the shelter of Indra and in the help of the Ādityas. O unerring ones, your protections—your good protections—are our safeguards.

परिह्वृतेदना जनो युष्मादत्तस्य वायति । देवा अदभ्रमाश वो यमादित्या अहेतनानेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥
When the human being is pressed on every side and feels diminished, he still seeks the force that is given by you. O Gods, the unfailing hope that you have set in us—O Ādityas—may it not be shaken; may your help, your good help, be with us, free from harm.

न तं तिग्मं चन त्यजो न द्रासदभि तं गुरु । यस्मा उ शर्म सप्रथ आदित्यासो अराध्वमनेहसो व ऊतयः सुतयो व ऊतयः ॥
Let no sharp assault, no crushing weight fall upon him. For whom you spread out a wide shelter, O Ādityas, to that one be gracious—may your harmless helps, your good helps, come to us.

That offering is for the soul’s nourishment, that for the labour of our becoming; and that portion is for the one who has approached and taken his seat (in the rite). O Dawn, carry away the evil-dreaming—bring us your unwearied help, your bright and good help.
