हा संक्षिप्त अथर्वणीय मंत्र निरृति—दुर्दैव, क्षय आणि मृत्युसदृशता—यांना शुद्ध करणाऱ्या जलांनी, अग्नीच्या आधाराने होणाऱ्या पुनर्स्थापनेने आणि पुण्यबळाने समर्थित यज्ञवाणीने प्रतिहत करून दूर करतो. पडलेले फळ किंवा आकाशातून झालेला स्पर्श असा अपशकुनी “संपर्क” काढून टाकण्याजोगा कलंक मानून तो देह व वस्त्र यांवरून शुद्ध करतो; आणि मग व्यक्तीला समृद्धी, तेज आणि संततिदायक शुभमंगलात दृढपणे स्थापन करतो.

हे ‘निर्ऋति’च्या विरोधासाठी पसरविलेले ‘अपस्तरण’ (आच्छादन/विस्तार) आहे. उंच द्युलोकातून, आत्ताच, अंतरिक्षातून, रसयुक्त जलाचा एक थेंब माझ्यावर पडला आहे. हे अग्ने, इंद्रियबलाने आणि पयस् (दूध/पोषकरस) यांनी मी सम्यक् पूर्ण होतो—छंदांनी, यज्ञांनी, सु-कृत (सत्कर्म) पुण्याने, आणि सिद्ध केलेल्या कर्माने.

यदि॑ वृ॒क्षाद॒भ्यप॑प्त॒त् फलं॒ तद् यद्य॒न्तरि॑क्षा॒त् स उ॑ वा॒युरे॒व। यत्रास्पृ॑क्षत् त॒न्वो॒३यच्च॒ वास॑स॒ आपो॑ नुदन्तु॒ निरृ॑तिं परा॒चैः
जर वृक्षावरून एखादे फळ माझ्यावर पडले असेल—किंवा अंतरिक्षातून पडले असेल; तर ते खरे तर वायूच आहे. जिथे-जिथे त्याचा स्पर्श देहाला झाला, आणि जे-जे वस्त्राला; तिथे आपः (जलदेवता) निर्ऋतीला दूर, परेच्या दिशेला ढकलून देऊ देत.

सुरभित आहे हे अभ्यञ्जन (लेपन)—तीच समृद्धी; हिरण्य (सोने) हे तेज—आणि तेच संतती-प्रद आहे. सर्व पवित्र करणारे तत्त्व आमच्या वर पसरू देत; निरृति आम्हाला पार नेऊ नये, आणि शत्रूंची अराति (दुष्टता) आमच्यावर चालू नये.
