アタルヴァ・ヴェーダ第11巻は、食(anna/brahmaudana)、息(prāṇa)、誓戒(vrata)、聖別された残余(ucchiṣṭa)、そして言葉(vāc)を通して神聖な主権を語り出す、凝縮された「ブラーフマナ的」書である。諸讃歌はこれらを、生命・生殖力・社会秩序・勝利を支える宇宙的な力として扱い、家内的な呪法を越えて、明確な神学的・祭式的省察へと踏み込む。祭司の食供・供物に関する素材に加え、名高いプラーナ讃歌は、呼吸を支配者にして守護者、力の授与者として讃え、長寿と豊穣を安定させ、祭儀の成就を根底から支えるものとして描く。

Ucchiṣṭa is the sanctified remnant left from ritual consumption/offerings; Kāṇḍa 11 praises it as a potent residue carrying protective and fecund power that sustains continuity of sacred order.
