Sukta 109

Mantra 1

परि प्र धन्वेन्द्राय सोम स्वादुर्मित्राय पूष्णे भगाय ॥

Flow forth all around and forward, O Soma, sweet with delight—towards Indra’s power; for Mitra’s harmony, for Pūṣan’s guiding, for Bhaga’s distributing plenitude.

Mantra 2

इन्द्रस्ते सोम सुतस्य पेयाः क्रत्वे दक्षाय विश्वे च देवाः ॥

Indra shall drink of thee, O Soma, when thou art pressed; and all the gods too—for the uplifted will (kratu) and for the luminous skill of right action (dakṣa).

Mantra 3

एवामृताय महे क्षयाय स शुक्रो अर्ष दिव्यः पीयूषः ॥

Thus flow, a radiant one, as the divine nectar—towards immortality and towards the great abiding; pour thyself out into that vast home of the soul.

Mantra 4

पवस्व सोम महान्त्समुद्रः पिता देवानां विश्वाभि धाम ॥

Purify thyself, O Soma, as a vast ocean; a father of the gods, encompassing all their seats of power—fill and uphold all the domains within us.

Mantra 5

शुक्रः पवस्व देवेभ्यः सोम दिवे पृथिव्यै शं च प्रजायै ॥

Purify thyself as the radiant Soma for the gods; for the luminous heaven and the wide earth bring peace, and bring well-being for the soul’s becomings (our progeny of works and states).

Mantra 6

दिवो धर्तासि शुक्रः पीयूषः सत्ये विधर्मन्वाजी पवस्व ॥

Thou art the upholder of the heaven, a radiant nectar; in the Truth, O establisher of the law, purify thyself as the bearer of plenitude of force.

Mantra 7

पवस्व सोम द्युम्नी सुधारो महामवीनामनु पूर्व्यः ॥

Purify thyself, O Soma, rich in luminous power, with a good stream; following the great helpers, come in thy ancient way.

Mantra 8

नृभिर्येमानो जज्ञानः पूतः क्षरद्विश्वानि मन्द्रः स्वर्वित् ॥

Guided by the human powers, born into manifestation, purified, he streams forth all things—delightful, finder of the Sun-world (svar), bringing the light of knowledge.

Mantra 9

इन्दुः पुनानः प्रजामुराणः करद्विश्वानि द्रविणानि नः ॥

The Indu, purifying himself, widening our becomings, shall make for us all riches—every substance of force and joy needed for the soul’s fulfilment.

Mantra 10

पवस्व सोम क्रत्वे दक्षायाश्वो न निक्तो वाजी धनाय ॥

Flow forth, O Soma, for the awakened will and for luminous skill—like a steed well-groomed, a bearer of plenitude of force toward the soul’s true wealth.

Mantra 11

तं ते सोतारो रसं मदाय पुनन्ति सोमं महे द्युम्नाय ॥

That essence of yours the pressers purify for ecstasy, O Soma, for the great luminous glory—so that the inner delight may become a vast radiance in us.

Mantra 12

शिशुं जज्ञानं हरिं मृजन्ति पवित्रे सोमं देवेभ्य इन्दुम् ॥

They cleanse in the filter the new-born child, the tawny one—Soma, the bright drop—for the Gods: the infant delight made pure for the powers of the soul.

Mantra 13

इन्दुः पविष्ट चारुर्मदायापामुपस्थे कविर्भगाय ॥

The bright drop has entered, lovely for ecstasy, in the lap of the waters—seer-like—toward Bhaga: delight settling into the supporting depths to bring the soul’s share of felicity.

Mantra 14

बिभर्ति चार्विन्द्रस्य नाम येन विश्वानि वृत्रा जघान ॥

He bears the lovely Name of Indra, by which he smote all the Vṛtras: Soma carries in himself the Indra-force that breaks the coverings and releases the light.

Mantra 15

पिबन्त्यस्य विश्वे देवासो गोभिः श्रीतस्य नृभिः सुतस्य ॥

All the gods drink of him—of the Soma pressed by the human powers and strengthened by the Rays: the divine faculties take in the clarified delight to grow in luminous force.

Mantra 16

प्र सुवानो अक्षाः सहस्रधारस्तिरः पवित्रं वि वारमव्यम् ॥

Pressed forth, he streams with a thousand currents across the filter, spreading wide the woolen strainer: the delight pours in manifold waves, opening the subtle passages of purification.

Mantra 17

स वाज्यक्षाः सहस्ररेता अद्भिर्मृजानो गोभिः श्रीणानः ॥

He, the bearer of victorious force, streams—of a thousand seeds—being cleansed by the waters and strengthened by the Rays: the Soma-power becomes fertile and luminous in the purified life.

Mantra 18

प्र सोम याहीन्द्रस्य कुक्षा नृभिर्येमानो अद्रिभिः सुतः ॥

Go forth, O Soma, to Indra’s belly—guided by the human powers, pressed by the stones: enter the seat of the illumined Force so it may break the inner obstacles.

Mantra 19

असर्जि वाजी तिरः पवित्रमिन्द्राय सोमः सहस्रधारः ॥

The victorious Soma, thousand-streamed, has been released across the filter for Indra: the purified delight is set free to feed the illumined Force and establish the wideness of truth.

Mantra 20

अञ्जन्त्येनं मध्वो रसेनेन्द्राय वृष्ण इन्दुं मदाय ॥

They anoint and prepare him with the honeyed essencethe Soma-drop for the rapture of Indra, the strong Bull-power, so that the Force may rise in ecstasy within us.

Mantra 21

देवेभ्यस्त्वा वृथा पाजसेऽपो वसानं हरिं मृजन्ति ॥

For the gods, the Waters cleanse youclothing you in your radiant might; they purify the tawny-bright one so the divine powers may receive the clarified force.

Mantra 22

इन्दुरिन्द्राय तोशते नि तोशते श्रीणन्नुग्रो रिणन्नपः ॥

The bright Soma gladdens Indra and settles into a deeper gladness; mixing its strength, the fierce power breaks open the Watersreleasing the streams of clarity in the being.
