వసిష్ఠుని ఈ సంక్షిప్త స్తోత్రం “మహా భక్తి”తో అగ్నిని సమీపిస్తుంది. తన స్వగృహంలో ప్రజ్వలింపబడినప్పుడు ప్రకాశించే యౌవన జ్వాలగా, తన తేజస్సు రెండు లోకములనూ వ్యాపింపజేసేవాడిగా అతనిని స్తుతిస్తుంది. జన్మముల జ్ఞాత అయిన జాతవేదస్గా అగ్ని ఆహ్వానింపబడి, సమస్త కష్టాలను అధిగమింపజేయమని, ఆరాధకులను దుఃఖం మరియు నైతిక దోషం నుండి కాపాడమని ప్రార్థించబడుతుంది. ముగింపు గుర్తింపులో అగ్ని మిత్రుడు–వరుణుడుల కార్యాలను తనలో ధరించినవాడిగా వందింపబడి, ధనసంపదలు, విజయసిద్ధులు, దీర్ఘకాల క్షేమాన్ని ప్రసాదించమని కోరబడుతుంది.

अगन्म महा नमसा यविष्ठं यो दीदाय समिद्धः स्वे दुरोणे । चित्रभानुं रोदसी अन्तरुर्वी स्वाहुतं विश्वतः प्रत्यञ्चम् ॥
మహా నమస్కారము/శరణాగతితో, తన స్వగృహంలో సమిద్ధుడై వెలిగినప్పుడు దీప్తించే యవిష్ఠ (అత్యంత యువ) అగ్నియొద్దకు మేము వచ్చాము. చిత్రభాను (వివిధవర్ణ దీప్తి) అయిన అతని కాంతి విస్తారమైన అంతరంలో రెండు రోదసీ (ద్యావా–పృథివీ)లను నింపుతుంది; స్వాహాతో సమ్యక్ ఆహుతమైనప్పుడు, అతడు అన్ని దిశల నుండీ మన వైపు ప్రత్యంచమై తిరుగుతాడు.

स मह्ना विश्वा दुरितानि साह्वानग्निः ष्टवे दम आ जातवेदाः । स नो रक्षिषद्दुरितादवद्यादस्मान्गृणत उत नो मघोनः ॥
మహిమలో మహానైన, సమస్త దురితాలను సహించి/జయించే అగ్ని—జాతవేదస్గా—గృహంలో స్తుతింపబడతాడు. అతడు మమ్మల్ని దురితమునుండి, అవద్య (దోషం) నుండీ రక్షించుగాక—స్తుతించే మమ్మల్ని, అలాగే మా మఘోన (దానశీలుడు/సమృద్ధిదాత)నూ.

त्वं वरुण उत मित्रो अग्ने त्वां वर्धन्ति मतिभिर्वसिष्ठाः । त्वे वसु सुषणनानि सन्तु यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
హే అగ్నే, నీవే వరుణుడవు, నీవే మిత్రుడవు; వసిష్ఠులు తమ మతి (భావ-స్తుతి)లతో నిన్ను వర్ధింపజేస్తారు. నీలో వసు (కల్యాణ-ధనం) మరియు సుషణన (సుఖద సిద్ధులు/సఫలతలు) ఉండుగాక; మరియు నీవు (దేవగణము/అగ్ని) ఎల్లప్పుడూ స్వస్తితో మమ్మల్ని కాపాడుగాక.

Jātavedas means “knower of births.” It presents Agni as an all-knowing divine fire who understands beings and events and can therefore protect, guide, and carry offerings rightly.
