વસિષ્ઠનું આ ટૂંકું સ્તોત્ર “મહાન આદર” સાથે અગ્નિને સમીપ કરે છે. પોતાના નિવાસમાં પ્રજ્વલિત થતાં જ તેજસ્વી થતી યુવાન જ્વાળા તરીકે અને જેના તેજથી બંને લોક વ્યાપ્ત થાય છે એવા રૂપે તેની સ્તુતિ કરે છે. જન્મોના જ્ઞાતા જાતવેદસ તરીકે અગ્નિનું આહ્વાન કરીને, સર્વ કઠિનાઈઓ પર વિજય અપાવવો અને ઉપાસકોને દુઃખ તથા નૈતિક દોષથી રક્ષવા વિનંતી કરવામાં આવે છે. અંતિમ ઓળખમાં અગ્નિને મિત્ર અને વરુણના કાર્યોનું સ્વરૂપ ગણાવી વંદન કરવામાં આવે છે, અને ધનસંપત્તિ, સફળ સિદ્ધિઓ તથા દીર્ઘકાલીન કલ્યાણ પ્રદાન કરવા પ્રાર્થના કરવામાં આવે છે.

अगन्म महा नमसा यविष्ठं यो दीदाय समिद्धः स्वे दुरोणे । चित्रभानुं रोदसी अन्तरुर्वी स्वाहुतं विश्वतः प्रत्यञ्चम् ॥
અમે મહાન નમસ્કાર સાથે અતિ યુવાન જ્વાલા (અગ્નિ) પાસે આવ્યા છીએ—જે પોતાના જ ગૃહમાં પ્રજ્વલિત થતાં તેજે દીપે છે. ચિત્રભાનુ એવો તે, વિશાળતા વચ્ચે બે લોક (રોદસી)ને અંતરમાં વ્યાપે છે; સુઆહુતિથી પ્રસન્ન થઈ, સર્વ દિશાઓમાંથી અમારી તરફ વળે છે.

स मह्ना विश्वा दुरितानि साह्वानग्निः ष्टवे दम आ जातवेदाः । स नो रक्षिषद्दुरितादवद्यादस्मान्गृणत उत नो मघोनः ॥
મહિમામાં મહાન, સર્વ દુરીતોને સહન કરી જીતનાર—અગ્નિ ગૃહમાં જાતવેદા તરીકે સ્તુત થાય છે. તે અમને દુરીતથી અને અવદ્ય (દોષ)થી રક્ષે—અમને, જે ગાયન કરીએ છીએ; અને અમારા મઘોન (દાનશીલ પોષક)ને પણ.

त्वं वरुण उत मित्रो अग्ने त्वां वर्धन्ति मतिभिर्वसिष्ठाः । त्वे वसु सुषणनानि सन्तु यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
હે અગ્નિ, તું વરુણ પણ છે અને મિત્ર પણ; વસિષ્ઠો તને પોતાની મતિઓથી વધારતા રહે છે. તારા અંદર શુભ વસુ (ધન-સંપત્તિ) અને સુસાધન (સુખદ સિદ્ધિઓ) રહો; અને તમે અમને સદા સ્વસ્તિભિઃ—કલ્યાણોથી—રક્ષા કરો.

Jātavedas means “knower of births.” It presents Agni as an all-knowing divine fire who understands beings and events and can therefore protect, guide, and carry offerings rightly.
