अथर्वाङ्गिरसपरम्परायां निबद्धं AVŚ 3.2 इदं सूक्तं प्रतिमन्त्ररूपं, यत् परकीयाभिचारं शापान् दुष्टसंकल्पांश्च प्रत्यावर्तयितुं प्रवर्तते, यथा शत्रोः योजना अन्तःस्वयमेव विफलतां गच्छेत्। अत्र जातवेदाः अग्निः प्राज्ञो दूतः प्रतिपाद्यते, यः शापवचनं प्रत्यग्निना दहति। सूक्तस्य प्रभावः अन्ते रणाङ्गणवत् मोहं जनयति—विपक्षीयो गणोऽन्धकारेणाभिहतः परस्परं नाभिजानाति। अस्य सूक्तस्य बलं मुख्यतः अपोत्पातन-प्रतिहिंसात्मकं—प्रत्यावर्तन, मोहन, निरस्त्रीकरणैः हानिं निराकरोति।

अग्निर्नो दूतः विद्वान् अस्मान् प्रत्येतु, अभिशस्तिम् अरातिं च प्रतिदहन् प्रत्यावर्तयतु। जातवेदाः परेषां चित्तानि मोहयतु, तांश्च निर्हस्तान् कृणोतु—निरस्त्रान्।
