Sukta 7.9

Rishi: Vasiṣṭha (Vasiṣṭha-gotra; traditional ascription for Maṇḍala 7 hymns)
Devata: Agni (as Hotṛ, purifier, opener of the Paṇi doors)
Chandas: Triṣṭubh (probable for RV 7.9; hymn style strongly Triṣṭubh)

स सुक्रतुर्यो वि दुरः पणीनां पुनानो अर्कं पुरुभोजसं नः । होता मन्द्रो विशां दमूनास्तिरस्तमो ददृशे राम्याणाम् ॥

sa sukrátur yó ví dúraḥ paṇīnām punānáḥ arkáṃ purubhójasam naḥ | hotā mandró viśā́m damū́nās tirás támo dadṛśe rāmyā́ṇām ||

彼は—正しい識別の力ある者—パニ(Pāṇi、光を溜め込む者ども)の扉を大きく開き、みずからを清めつつ、われらのために多くを養う讃歌の炎(アルカ)を現す。諸民の喜ばしき光明の祭官ホートリ(Hotṛ)、家に住まう者として、闇を越え、麗しき者たちの彼方に見出される。
