Sarga 75: Bharata and Kausalya—Reproach, Oaths, and Reconciliation
एवं विलपमानस्य दुःखार्तस्य महात्मनः।मोहाच्च शोकसम्रोधाद्बभूव लुलितं मनः।।।।
evaṃ vilapamānasya duḥkhārtasya mahātmanaḥ | mohāc ca śokasamrodhād babhūva lulitaṃ manaḥ ||
かくして、高貴なるバラタが苦悩に打たれて嘆き悲しむとき、その心は昏迷と悲嘆の圧迫によって揺らぎ、乱れた。
But at the same time Bharata, the younger brother of Rama accompanied by Satrughna proceeded to the place where Kausalya resided.
The text recognizes the human limits under grief; dharma requires steadiness of mind, and this verse shows how sorrow can destabilize that steadiness—inviting compassionate understanding rather than harsh judgment.
Bharata’s lamentation intensifies to the point of mental instability and faintness.
Bharata’s mahātmatā (nobility) remains acknowledged even while he is overwhelmed—virtue is not denied by human vulnerability.
