この短いアタルヴァヴェーダの呪法は、契約と結束を保証する神々（ブリハスパティ、サヴィタル、ミトラ、アリヤマン、バガ、アシュヴィン双神）を招請し、縄による儀礼的な縛りをもって、依頼者（家・軍勢・共同体）の周囲に守護の秩序を「締め固める」。狙いは、将・中核の戦士・歩兵に至るまで敵を階層横断的に拘束して動きを封じ、進軍・合図・連携を崩壊させることにある。本讃歌の力は、社会的な絆（ミトラ＝アリヤマン）と物理的な絆（dāman/saṃdāna）とを、一つの執行可能な拘束として同一視する点に存する。
