This brief Uṣas-hymn of Vasiṣṭha praises Dawn as the radiant young bringer of motion, life, and renewed order, who opens a wide, safe path for human activity. Dawn’s arising is inseparable from Agni’s kindling: as light spreads, darkness is driven off and the sacrificer is led toward wealth (rayi), protection, and well-being.

Mantra 1
उपो रुरुचे युवतिर्न योषा विश्वं जीवं प्रसुवन्ती चरायै । अभूदग्निः समिधे मानुषाणामकर्ज्योतिर्बाधमाना तमांसि ॥
सवेरा चमक उठा जैसे कोई जवान लड़की। यह सब जीव जंतुओं को चलने और आगे बढ़ने लगाती है। अग्नि देवता इंसानों के लिए जलने लगता है। वो रोशनी बनाता है और अंधेरा दूर कर देता है।

विश्वं प्रतीची सप्रथा उदस्थाद्रुशद्वासो बिभ्रती शुक्रमश्वैत् । हिरण्यवर्णा सुदृशीकसंदृग्गवां माता नेत्र्यह्नामरोचि ॥
उषा, यह सवेरा, हमारी तरफ मुड़ के फैल गयी है। चारों तरफ फैल गयी है। उसने चमकदार कपड़ा पहना है, बिल्कुल साफ और सफेद। सोना जैसा रंग है उसका, देखने में बहुत अच्छी लगती है। वो किरणों की माँ है और दिनों को ले चलने वाली है।

देवानां चक्षुः सुभगा वहन्ती श्वेतं नयन्ती सुदृशीकमश्वम् । उषा अदर्शि रश्मिभिर्व्यक्ता चित्रामघा विश्वमनु प्रभूता ॥
यह उषा देवताओं की आँख लेकर आती है। एक सफेद घोड़ा को ले चलती है जो बहुत अच्छा दिखता है। उषा दिखाई देने लगती है, उसकी किरणें चारों तरफ फैल जाती हैं। वो अलग-अलग तोहफे लेकर आती है और सब जगह ताकत पा लेती है।

अन्तिवामा दूरे अमित्रमुच्छोर्वीं गव्यूतिमभयं कृधी नः । यावय द्वेष आ भरा वसूनि चोदय राधो गृणते मघोनि ॥
हे उषा, तू अच्छी चीज़ें पास ला और दुश्मन लोगों को दूर कर। ऊपर आ। हमारे लिए एक चौड़ी रास्ता बना, जिसमे कोई डर न हो। नफरत को भगा दे। ऐश्वर्य और दौलत ले कर आ। गाने वाले के लिए बरकत ला।

अस्मे श्रेष्ठेभिर्भानुभिर्वि भाह्युषो देवि प्रतिरन्ती न आयुः । इषं च नो दधती विश्ववारे गोमदश्वावद्रथवच्च राधः ॥
हे उषा देवी, अपनी सबसे बड़ी किरणों से हमारे ऊपर चमक डाल। हमारी जान को आगे बढ़ा, कभी रुके नहीं। हमें सही दिशा में बढ़ने की ताकत दे। तू वो है जिसके पास सब कुछ है। हमें ज्ञान की किरण, इरादों की ताकत और आगे बढ़ने की शक्ति दे।

यां त्वा दिवो दुहितर्वर्धयन्त्युषः सुजाते मतिभिर्वसिष्ठाः । सास्मासु धा रयिमृष्वं बृहन्तं यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
हे उषा, तू आसमान की बेटी है, बहुत अच्छी जात की। वसिष्ठ ऋषि अपने सोच से तुझे बड़ा करते हैं। तू हमारे अंदर बड़ी दौलत और खुशी भर दे। हे देवता लोग, तुम हमेशा हमारी हिफाजत करना, खुश रखना।
