What the texts say

In the Shiva Purana, Parvati is the goddess Sati reborn as the daughter of Himalaya, and from then the name Parvati became renowned. Shiva Purana 2.2.1.44 Sati had been wedded to Shiva, and at her father's sacrifice she abandoned her body. Shiva Purana 2.16.41 Parvati resolves to win Shiva through tapas, or austerity. Shiva Purana 2.3.22.1 After Shiva burned Kama, the god of desire, she is consoled with the words that her Lord, the great yogi, is detached yet tenderly compassionate to his devotees. Shiva Purana 2.3.21.27, 2.3.21.11 Through abundant austerities she attains Shiva as her husband. Shiva Purana 2.2.24.8 She stations her son Ganesha at her doorway, staff in hand, as guardian while she bathes. Shiva Purana 2.4.13.30, 2.4.13.28 As Gauri, one of her names, she becomes Shiva's left half, Ardhanarishvara. Shiva Purana 2.2.43.40
