Dieser kurze kosmogonische Hymnus zeichnet die geordnete Entfaltung der Schöpfung nach: Aus tapas (schöpferischer Glut) entstehen Ṛta und Satya, dann Nacht und der kosmische Ozean, und daraus das Jahr, das Tage und Nächte bemisst. Er gipfelt darin, dass Dhātṛ, der Ordner, Sonne und Mond einsetzt und die gestuften Welten — Himmel, Erde, Zwischenraum und svah — begründet und so bekräftigt, dass der Kosmos auf intelligibler Ordnung ruht.

Mantra 1
ऋतं च सत्यं चाभीद्धात्तपसोऽध्यजायत । ततो रात्र्यजायत ततः समुद्रो अर्णवः ॥
Aus dem Entflammen des Tapas (tapas), der inneren Glut, wurden Ṛta, die kosmische Ordnung, und Satya, die Wahrheit, geboren; daraus wurde die Nacht geboren, und daraus der Ozean, die grenzenlose Flut.

समुद्रादर्णवादधि संवत्सरो अजायत । अहोरात्राणि विदधद्विश्वस्य मिषतो वशी ॥
Aus dem Ozean, aus der Tiefe, aus der wogenden Flut wurde das Jahr geboren. Er, die herrschende Macht, ordnete die Tage und Nächte für alles, was sich im All regt.
Mantra 3
सूर्याचन्द्रमसौ धाता यथापूर्वमकल्पयत् । दिवं च पृथिवीं चान्तरिक्षमथो स्वः ॥
Sonne und Mond hat Dhātar nach dem uralten Urbild geordnet; und er setzte ihre Stätten fest — den Himmel und die Erde, den Luftraum dazwischen und auch Svar, den lichtvollen höchsten Bereich.
