అథర్వవేదం 2.8 ఒక సంక్షిప్తమైన చికిత్సా–నిర్బహణ మంత్రం. పైకీ కిందకీ బిగించబడిన బంధన-పాశంలా ఊహించబడిన క్షేత్రియ వ్యాధిని సడలించి తరిమివేయడమే దీని లక్ష్యం. ‘విమోచకులు’గా జంటగా పిలువబడే విచృతా మరియు తారకా దేవతలను ‘విప్పి విడిపించు’ అని ఆహ్వానిస్తుంది. క్షేత్రియ-నాశక ఔషధంగా విరుత్ లతను ప్రేరేపించి, దున్నే పనిముట్లు కూడా ఆచారపరంగా వ్యాధిని ‘కత్తిరించి’ తొలగించేలా ఈ కర్మశక్తిని విస్తరిస్తుంది.

పైకి వెళ్లుగాక ఆ రెండు భగవతులు—‘విచృతౌ’ అనే పేరుగల ఆ రెండు తారకే (విమోచకులు). క్షేత్రియ-రోగం నుండి (మమ్మల్ని) విడిపించి, క్రింది పాశమూ పై పాశమూ—రెండింటినీ విడదీసి విప్పుగాక.

अपे॒यं रात्र्यु॑च्छ॒त्वपो॑च्छन्त्वभि॒कृत्व॑रीः । वी॒रुत् क्षे॑त्रिय॒नाश॒न्यप॑ क्षेत्रि॒यमु॑च्छतु
దూరమగుగాక! ఈ రాత్రి లేచి తొలగిపోవుగాక; దాడిచేసే శక్తులు దూరమగుగాక—లేచి విడిపోవుగాక. క్షేత్రియ-నాశినీ వీరుత్—ఆమె క్షేత్రియ (వ్యాధి)ను ఎత్తి దూరం చేయుగాక.
