Sukta 7.84
इयमिन्द्रं वरुणमष्ट मे गीः प्रावत्तोके तनये तूतुजाना । सुरत्नासो देववीतिं गमेम यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
iyám índraṃ váruṇam aṣṭa me gī́ḥ prá āvat tókē tánaye tū́tujānā | su-rátnāso deva-vī́tiṃ gamema yūyáṃ pāta svastíbhiḥ sádā naḥ ||
My song has reached Indra and Varuṇa, advancing and urging on our offspring and lineage. May we, rich in good treasures, attain the gods’ enjoyment/finding; may you protect us always with well-being.
The ‘gīḥ’ is the soul’s articulate aspiration that successfully touches the higher powers. It ‘advances’ (prāvat) because true prayer is itself a movement forward in consciousness. ‘Toke tanaye’ can be read inwardly as the continuity of the being—our future formations, the ‘child-soul’ and developing parts—urged toward growth by the mantra-force. ‘Devavīti’ is the path of meeting and enjoying the gods: a state where higher powers are not distant beliefs but experienced presences and workings. Protection by ‘svastibhiḥ’ is not mere safety; it is stable right-being—harmonious conditions of mind, life, and body that allow steady progress.
A sincere, well-formed aspiration not only calls help; it educates the future self. Spiritual speech, repeated over time, shapes the next movements of our nature and establishes enduring well-being.
hymn as effective approach, divine protection, attainment of deva-vīti
Vasiṣṭha’s prayers often include protection for continuity—family/lineage outwardly, and inwardly the continuity of the soul’s formation across time.
The seer emphasizes that mantra is evolutionary: it shapes the ‘next generation’ within us—our future mind and life—toward the divine meeting (devavīti).
They receive the hymn and respond by guiding toward divine communion and guarding the journey of life.
They stabilize progress: Indra gives forward impetus and courage; Varuṇa gives protective order and rightness, resulting in svasti (harmonious being).
Concluding praise/prayer in a hymn sequence; suitable as an anuvākyā-style closure seeking protection and auspiciousness.

Warmly forward-moving; a ‘reaching’ and then a ‘settling’ into protection.
Encourages confidence that the prayer is heard; ends with a soothing cadence on ‘svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ’.
Concluding benediction: protection (pā) and svasti; affirmation that the hymn has reached the gods
At the close of recitation/offerings to seal the rite with protection and well-being.
Final recitation with a gesture of sealing/namas; mentally extend the benefit to future continuity (toke/tanaye).
Use as a closing mantra after meditation or chanting sessions: affirm contact, dedicate progress to one’s future self/family, and invoke stable well-being.
gī́r from √gai/√gī 'sing, praise'; tūtujānā intensive participle from √tuj 'push, incite' → inner energizing; su-rátnā from su- 'good' + ratná 'treasure' (spiritual jewel/power); deva-vī́ti (vīti from √vī 'to pursue, enjoy, find') → 'divine finding/enjoyment' as attainment of godhead; svastí from su- + √as 'be' → 'good being' (well-being as stable state of consciousness).
svasti (good-being), continuity of being (toka, tanaya) as inner lineage of growth
Svastí implies harmony with ṛta—life arranged in right measure so the divine can be ‘found’.
True treasures (suratna) correspond to satya-values rather than transient gains.
Mantra as a creative impulse shaping the future (‘offspring’) of consciousness.
Integral evolutionary view: the being grows through repeated contact with higher powers.
Journey = progressive sādhana; reaching the gods = ascent/communion; svasti = stable equilibrium of the inner environment.
Seal communion: feel the mantra as having ‘reached’ the higher power; rest in the response as protection and well-being.
Anāhata (devotion/communion) and Sahasrāra (contact above).
Natural breathing; on exhale repeat mentally ‘svastibhiḥ’; on inhale feel ‘devavīti’ drawing near.
Quiet devotional assurance.
Chant once at the end of practice; then dedicate the gained clarity/peace to your ‘future self’ (toka/tanaya) and resolve to carry it into action.
Tri-svara per śākhā; exact udatta sequence not supplied here.
Let ‘aṣṭa’ be crisp (arrival); give gentle emphasis to ‘devavītiṃ’ and a soft, sustained close on ‘svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ’.
iyam: short i (i-yam), aṣṭa: retroflex ṣṭ (aṣ-ṭa), prāvat: long ā (prā-), tūtujānā: long ū and long ā (tū-tu-jā-nā), suratnāsaḥ: retroflex ṇ? here ‘ratnā’ with dental n; keep ‘tn’ cluster clear, devavītiṃ: long ī (vī), nasalized ṃ at end
Warm, intimate, concluding like a benediction.
