Sukta 1.49
उषो भद्रेभिरा गहि दिवश्चिद्रोचनादधि । वहन्त्वरुणप्सव उप त्वा सोमिनो गृहम् ॥
uṣo bhadrébhir ā́ gahi diváś cid rocanā́d ádhi | váhantv aruṇá-psava úpa tvā somíno gṛhám ||
ウシャス(曙光)よ、吉祥なる力とともに来たれ、天の光輝の界よりさえも。赤く輝く諸力(aruṇapsavaḥ)よ、ソーマ(Soma)を求むる者の家へと、彼女を近く運べ。
Morning Soma context: invitation for Uṣas to approach the Soma-pressing ‘home’; inwardly aligns aspiration (Soma-seeker) with dawn-illumination.
Descent of higher light into the embodied home, Soma as delight-essence supporting transformation
The ‘coming’ of dawn follows ṛta; practice aligns with that rhythm to receive higher help.
Bhadra powers are those aligned with truth and harmony, not impulsive desire.
Descent: higher light entering the human home renews the day and consciousness.
Aurobindonian descent-ascent dynamic: illumination descends (Uṣas) to prepare Soma-realization (ānanda).
dawn
Ruddy dawn = purified life-force; home = heart-center; luminous heaven = higher mind plane.
Invite the dawn-force from above the head into the heart; let breath/life-energy carry it inward; awaken quiet joy (Soma).
anāhata (inner home) with sahasrāra/ājñā (luminous descent)
Gentle inhale visualizing light descending; exhale feeling it settle in the heart-home; repeat the mantra softly.
Receptive, luminous, quietly joyful.
Before practice, offer a simple inner ‘pressing of Soma’: gratitude + aspiration; then call Uṣas to make the joy clear and near.
Maintain gāyatrī brisk clarity; follow udatta/anudatta markings of the recension—avoid monotone.
Emphasize the invitation ‘ā gahi’; keep ‘rocanāt’ bright; land gently on ‘gṛham’.
ā gahi: long ā; g as hard ‘g’, rocanāt: c as ‘ch’ (ro-cha-nāt), long ā, aruṇapsavaḥ: retroflex ṇ; split as aruṇa-psavaḥ; keep v as v, sominio: somino—short o; dental n, gṛham: vocalic ṛ (gri-ham is incorrect)
Bright, inviting, and light; not heavy.
