तां हि मे सुकृतां बुद्धिं सुहृद्भिस्सह निश्चिताम्।।2.12.63।।कथं द्रक्ष्याम्यपावृत्तां परैरिव हतां चमूम्। किं मां वक्ष्यन्ति राजानो नानादिग्भ्य स्समागताः।।2.12.64।।बालो बताऽयमैक्ष्वाकश्चिरं राज्यमकारयत्।
tāṃ hi me sukṛtāṃ buddhiṃ suhṛdbhiḥ saha niścitām |
kathaṃ drakṣyāmy apāvṛttāṃ parair iva hatāṃ camūm |
kiṃ māṃ vakṣyanti rājāno nānādigbhyaḥ samāgatāḥ |
bālo batāyam aikṣvākaś ciraṃ rājyam akārayat ||
友とともに慎重に思案し、定めたその決意を――どうして私は、それが覆されるのを見られようか。まるで敵に打ち破られ、退却を余儀なくされた軍勢のように。四方より集う諸王は私を何と言うだろう。「ああ、このイクシュヴァークは愚か者だ。どうしてこれほど長く国を治められたのか」と。
