उत यत् पत॑यो॒ दश॑ स्त्रि॒याः पूर्वे॒ अब्रा॑ह्मणाः । ब्र॒ह्माचेद्धस्त॒मग्र॑ही॒त् स ए॒व पति॑रेक॒धा

Sanskrit recitationAtharva Veda 5.17.8

utá yát pátayo dáśa striyā́ḥ pū́rve ábrāhmaṇāḥ | bráhmā céd hástam ágrahīt sá evá pátiḥ ekadhā́

And further: though of old a woman had ten husbands, men not Brahmins; if the Brahman took her hand, he—he alone—was husband, as one and without division.

また、たとえ昔、ある女に十人の夫がいて、いずれも婆羅門にあらぬ者であっても、婆羅門がその手を取るなら、彼こそ——彼ひとりこそ——夫であり、一つにして分かたれない。
