Agni

This hymn praises Agni as the ever-ancient fire kindled by the seekers of ṛta, the radiant house-lord who establishes order and carries worship. It asks Agni to accept the singers’ homage, to blaze with bright kindlings, and to help the mortal overcome earthly obstacles through his growing power.

त्वामग्न ऋतायवः समीधिरे प्रत्नं प्रत्नास ऊतये सहस्कृत । पुरुश्चन्द्रं यजतं विश्वधायसं दमूनसं गृहपतिं वरेण्यम् ॥
अग्नि, लोग तुम्हे जलाते हैं क्योंकि तुम पुराने हो, हमेशा से हो। तुम मदद करते हैं। तुम्हारी चमक बहुत है, तुम सब जगह काम करते हैं। तुम घर में रहते हैं, घर के मालिक हो। सब तुम्हे चुनते हैं।

त्वामग्ने अतिथिं पूर्व्यं विशः शोचिष्केशं गृहपतिं नि षेदिरे । बृहत्केतुं पुरुरूपं धनस्पृतं सुशर्माणं स्ववसं जरद्विषम् ॥
अग्नि, लोग तुम्हे मेहमान बना के बिठाते हैं। तुम पुराने मेहमान हो। तुम्हारे बाल आग जैसी चमक में हैं। तुम घर के मालिक हो। तुम्हारी रोशनी का झंडा बड़ा है। तुम कितने रूप ले सकते हैं। तुम धन को छुआते हो, अच्छा घर देते हो। तुम पुरानी बुराई को खत्म करते हैं।

त्वामग्ने मानुषीरीळते विशो होत्राविदं विविचिं रत्नधातमम् । गुहा सन्तं सुभग विश्वदर्शतं तुविष्वणसं सुयजं घृतश्रियम् ॥
अग्नि, लोग तुम्हे बुलाते हैं। तुम जानते हो पूजा कैसे करनी है। तुम अंदर की धन देते हो। तुम छुपा रहते हो, फिर भी सब तुम्हे देख सकते हैं। तुम पूजा सही चलाते हो, और तुम्हारी चमक घी जैसी है।

त्वामग्ने धर्णसिं विश्वधा वयं गीर्भिर्गृणन्तो नमसोप सेदिम । स नो जुषस्व समिधानो अङ्गिरो देवो मर्तस्य यशसा सुदीतिभिः ॥
अग्नि, तुम सब जगह बसे हो। हम तुम्हारे पास आते हैं, तुम्हारी तारीफ करते हैं, मथा टेकते हैं। अग्नि, तुम हमें अपना लो। तुम जल के चमक रहे हो। भगवान, तुम इंसान को बढ़ा रहे हो, उसकी चमक बढ़ा रहे हो।

त्वमग्ने पुरुरूपो विशेविशे वयो दधासि प्रत्नथा पुरुष्टुत । पुरूण्यन्ना सहसा वि राजसि त्विषिः सा ते तित्विषाणस्य नाधृषे ॥
अग्नि, तुम्हारे बहुत रूप हैं। हर जगह, हर समाज में तुम लोगों में ज़िन्दगी की ताकत डालते हो। लोग तुम्हारी बहुत तारीफ करते हैं। तुम ज़ोर से चमकते हो और खाना बाँटते हो। जब तुम पूरा जल उठते हो, तुम्हारी चमक इतनी होती है कि कोई उसके सामने नहीं टिक सकता।

त्वामग्ने समिधानं यविष्ठ्य देवा दूतं चक्रिरे हव्यवाहनम् । उरुज्रयसं घृतयोनिमाहुतं त्वेषं चक्षुर्दधिरे चोदयन्मति ॥
अग्नि, जब तुम जलते हो तो देवता तुम्हे अपना दूत बना लेते हैं। तुम उनका पैग़ाम ले के जाते हो। तुम्हारा चमकता रोशनी से निकलता है। देवता तुम्हे अपना तेज़ आँख बना देते हैं जो सोच को सही दिशा में ले जाता है।

त्वामग्ने प्रदिव आहुतं घृतैः सुम्नायवः सुषमिधा समीधिरे । स वावृधान ओषधीभिरुक्षितोऽभि ज्रयांसि पार्थिवा वि तिष्ठसे ॥
अग्नि, ऊपर आसमान से तुम्हे बुलाया जाता है और घी डाल के जलाया जाता है। लोग अच्छा लकड़ी डाल के तुम्हे जलाते हैं। तुम बढ़ते हो, घास-फूस के बीच में, और ज़मीन के रास्ते से आगे बढ़ जाते हो।
