Agni
Jagatī (opening verses of many Agni hymns in Book 3 frequently use jagatī; this verse is longer and fits jagatī movement)
This short Agni hymn of Viśvāmitra calls the divine Fire to arrive with the gods and to be seated on the barhis (sacred spread), establishing the rite in right order. It asks Agni for peace-giving shelters, radiant wealth across heaven, earth, and waters, and for unfailing, luminous heroic power (suvīrya) that increases rather than declines.

Mantra 1
प्र वो देवायाग्नये बर्हिष्ठमर्चास्मै । गमद्देवेभिरा स नो यजिष्ठो बर्हिरा सदत् ॥
अग्नि भगवान के लिए सबसे बड़ा गाना गाओ। वो यहाँ आए और देवताओं को साथ लाए। यज्ञ में सबसे अच्छा वो है, वो हमारे पास आके बैठ जाए।

ऋतावा यस्य रोदसी दक्षं सचन्त ऊतयः । हविष्मन्तस्तमीळते तं सनिष्यन्तोऽवसे ॥
वो धरम का पहरेदार है। आसमान और धरती दोनों उसकी मदद करते हैं। जो लोग भोग लगाते हैं वो उसकी पूजा करते हैं। वो उस्से पाना चाहते हैं ताकि वो उनकी रक्षा करे और सही रास्ता दिखाए।

स यन्ता विप्र एषां स यज्ञानामथा हि षः । अग्निं तं वो दुवस्यत दाता यो वनिता मघम् ॥
अग्नि सब का गाइड है, वो सब कुछ समझता है। यज्ञ में वो मेन लीडर है। अग्नि की सेवा करो, वो दाता है। वही हमे खुशी और ताकत देता है।

स नः शर्माणि वीतयेऽग्निर्यच्छतु शंतमा । यतो नः प्रुष्णवद्वसु दिवि क्षितिभ्यो अप्स्वा ॥
अग्नि हमे इतना सुखी करे कि हमें चैन मिले। उनसे ही हमे धन मिले, जो चमकता है। यह धन धरती पे मिले, आसमान में, और पानी में भी। इस्से हमारा जीना पूरा हो जाए।

दीदिवांसमपूर्व्यं वस्वीभिरस्य धीतिभिः । ऋक्वाणो अग्निमिन्धते होतारं विश्पतिं विशाम् ॥
गाने वाले लोग अग्नि को जगाते हैं। वो हमेशा चमकता है, कभी बुरा नहीं होता। लोग अच्छे खयालों से उसे जलाते हैं। वो सबका पुजारी है और सब का मालिक भी।

उत नो ब्रह्मन्नविष उक्थेषु देवहूतमः । शं नः शोचा मरुद्वृधोऽग्ने सहस्रसातमः ॥
अग्नि, हमारी पूजा की बात को बचा। जब हम भगवान को बुलाते हैं, तब तू सबसे ताकतवर है। हमारे लिए चमक और शांति ला। तू मरुत की सेना को बढ़ाता है, और हज़ारों खुशी जीतता है।

नू नो रास्व सहस्रवत्तोकवत्पुष्टिमद्वसु । द्युमदग्ने सुवीर्यं वर्षिष्ठमनुपक्षितम् ॥
अग्नि, अभी हमे वो धन दे जो हज़ार गुना ज़्यादा हो। इसमे बच्चे हों और जीना आगे बढ़े। हमे वो ताकत दे जो चमकती हो और सबसे ज़्यादा हो। वो कभी कम नहीं होनी चाहिए, हमेशा बढ़ती रहे।
