Indra
Gāyatrī (dominant meter of RV 1.1–1.10; this verse conforms to the compact praise style typical of Gāyatrī)
RV 1.7 is a compact Gāyatrī hymn that repeatedly affirms Indra as the primary focus of praise for singers and seers, strengthened by luminous hymns and inspired speech. It asks the ever-giving “bull” Indra to enlarge the offered essence and to turn his undivided power toward the worshippers for victory, protection, and increase.

Mantra 1
इन्द्रमिद्गाथिनो बृहदिन्द्रमर्केभिरर्किणः । इन्द्रं वाणीरनूषत ॥
गाने वाले लोग इंद्र का नाम लेते हैं। वो कहते हैं इंद्र बहुत बड़ा है। जो लोग भजन बनाते हैं वो अपने गानों से इंद्र को ताकत देते हैं। सब लोग अपनी आवाज़ में इंद्र की तारीफ करते हैं।

इन्द्र इद्धर्योः सचा सम्मिश्ल आ वचोयुजा । इन्द्रो वज्री हिरण्ययः ॥
इंद्र अपने दो घोड़ों के साथ आता है। वो हमारे साथ खड़ा होता है। हमारी बातों से वो जुड़ जाता है। इंद्र वज्र पकड़ता है और सोना जैसा चमकता है।

इन्द्रो दीर्घाय चक्षस आ सूर्यं रोहयद्दिवि । वि गोभिरद्रिमैरयत् ॥
इंद्र ने सूरज को आसमान में ऊँचा किया ताकि हम दूर तक देख सकें। उसने चमकते किरण से पत्थर तोड़ दिया और रोशनी बाहर निकाल दी।

इन्द्र वाजेषु नोऽव सहस्रप्रधनेषु च । उग्र उग्राभिरूतिभिः ॥
हे इंद्र, जब हम किसी काम में जाएँ तो हमारी रक्षा करना। जहाँ भी लड़ाई हो और बहुत कुछ दाव पर लगा हो, वहाँ भी हमें बचा। तू ताकत वाला है, अपनी ताकत से मदद कर।

इन्द्रं वयं महाधन इन्द्रमर्भे हवामहे । युजं वृत्रेषु वज्रिणम् ॥
हम इंद्र को बुलाते हैं जब बड़ा माल मिलता है। हम छोटे काम में भी इंद्र को बुलाते हैं। वो दुश्मनों के साथ लड़ने में हमारे साथ खड़ा होता है। उसके पास वज्र है।

स नो वृषन्नमुं चरुं सत्रादावन्नपा वृधि । अस्मभ्यमप्रतिष्कुतः ॥
हे इंद्र, तुम जैसे बलवान बैल हो। तुम जो देते हो वो बिना रुके चलता है। हमारे लिए वो प्यारा देना बढ़ा दो। इसे कम मत होने दो। तुम्हारे आगे कोई नहीं टिकता, तुम्हे कोई रोक नहीं सकता।

तुञ्जेतुञ्जे य उत्तरे स्तोमा इन्द्रस्य वज्रिणः । न विन्धे अस्य सुष्टुतिम् ॥
लोग बार-बार इंद्र की स्तुति करते हैं। वज्र वाले इंद्र के लिए और ऊँचे गीत गाते हैं। जो लोग सच्चे दिल से उसकी तारीफ करते हैं, वो उसकी सही स्तुति को नहीं छोड़ते। वो उस शक्ति को सही तरीके से पुकारते हैं जो अंधेरा तोड़ता है।

वृषा यूथेव वंसगः कृष्टीरियर्त्योजसा । ईशानो अप्रतिष्कुतः ॥
इंद्र बलवान है जैसे कोई बैल जो हर्ड का लीडर हो। वो अपनी शक्ति से लोगों को सही दिशा में ले जाता है। वो सबका मालिक है। कोई उसे पीछे धकेल नहीं सकता, कोई उसे हरा नहीं सकता।

य एकश्चर्षणीनां वसूनामिरज्यति । इन्द्रः पञ्च क्षितीनाम् ॥
वो अकेला इंसानी जाति के ऊपर राज करता है। वो वही है जो सबको देता है। इंद्र पाँच दुनिया का एक ही मालिक है।

इन्द्रं वो विश्वतस्परि हवामहे जनेभ्यः । अस्माकमस्तु केवलः ॥
हम इंद्र को हर तरफ से पुकारते हैं। यह पुकार साधारण लोगों की नहीं है। हम चाहते हैं कि वो सिर्फ हमारे लिए हो। वो हमारे लिए पूरा काम करे और हमारी जीत में मदद करे।
