Sukta 9.83
Ascribed in RV 9 to Pavāmāna seers.
Soma Pavāmāna (with Brahmaṇaspati invoked as lord of the purifying word/filter).
Likely Triṣṭubh (verify against full hymn).
Is mantra mein Soma ki tareef hai. Soma ko ek baniye se guzarna padta hai. Woh baniya use saaf kar deta hai. Sirf taiyar hua Soma aage badh sakta hai. Yeh ek tarah ka safai aur taiyari hai. Soma phir devtaon ke paas jaata hai. Woh duniya ko sambhalta hai. Uski kirti charon taraf failti hai.
Mantra 1
Shabd ke guru, tumhara filter bahut faila hua hai. Tum sab taraf se hamare shareer ko gher lete ho. Jo kacha hai, jo pakda nahi hai, woh us level tak nahi pahunch sakta. Sirf woh jo pak gaya, jo taiyaar ho gaya, woh use utha sakta hai aur poora pahunch sakta hai.
Mantra 2
Tapas ko saaf karne wala filter aasman par bichha hua hai. Uske chamakte hue taan gaye hain aur pakke hain. Tez taakeatein is filter ki raksha karti hain.
Chitkabra rang wala subah ke pehle chamakta hai. Bail jo jeetna chahta hai woh duniya ko sambhalta hai. Apni taakat se jo nazar rakhte hain woh use napte hain. Purvaj jo insaan ki tarah dekhte hain, woh garbh ko andar rakh dete hain, taaki khushi hamare andar paida ho.
Mantra 4
Gandharva apni jagah pe khada rehta hai. Woh devtaon ke janam ki hifazat karta hai. Dushman taakat ko woh chupa ke pakad leta hai. Khazane ka maalik hai woh. Jo accha kaam karte hain, woh meetha hissa paate hain. Koi cheen nahi sakta unse.
Mantra 5
Hey Soma, tu ek aisi bhent hai jo bhent ki taakat se bhara hai. Aasman ko kapda pehen ke tu yagya ke aas paas ghoomta hai. Tu raja hai, tera rath pavitra karne wala hai. Tu jeet pe sawaar hai. Hazaar teeron jaisi taakat se tu badi kirti jeeta hai.
It praises Soma as he is purified through the ritual filter (pavitra), teaching that only what is properly prepared and refined becomes fit to reach the divine goal and empower the sacrifice.
Because purification is not only physical straining but also right sacred speech and correct ritual formulation; Brahmaṇaspati represents the lordship of that purifying “word” and ordered rite.
It can symbolize inner discernment and maturation: raw, unformed states cannot ‘pass through,’ but disciplined, clarified consciousness becomes luminous, strong, and capable of true attainment.
