この短いアグニ讃歌は、「母」の内に秘められた火の誕生を観想する――覆いの中に隠され、のちに明確な姿となって現れる。アグニの光り輝き生命を呼び覚ます力が共同体と繁栄を増し広げることを讃え、さらに、風と灰の中を進む光線／炎としての躍動する戯れを喚起し、行為へ向けてその諸力を研ぎ澄ますさまを描く。

Mantra 1
अभ्यवस्थाः प्र जायन्ते प्र वव्रेर्वव्रिश्चिकेत । उपस्थे मातुर्वि चष्टे ॥
包み覆う諸相は生じ出で、覆いより秘められし者は覚知する。母なるものの懐において、彼は分明なる姿として見られる。

जुहुरे वि चितयन्तोऽनिमिषं नृम्णं पान्ति । आ दृळ्हां पुरं विविशुः ॥
彼らは供献し、また見分け知る。瞬きなき英雄の威力を護り、堅固なる城塞へと入り込んだ。
Mantra 3
आ श्वैत्रेयस्य जन्तवो द्युमद्वर्धन्त कृष्टयः । निष्कग्रीवो बृहदुक्थ एना मध्वा न वाजयुः ॥
Śvaitreya（シュヴァイトレーヤ）に向かって、諸々の民と耕作の諸族は、光輝ある力を増し広がる。金の頸飾りを帯び、広大なる讃歌をもつ者――これによって彼は蜜のごとく進み、充溢（ヴァージャ）を求める者となる。

प्रियं दुग्धं न काम्यमजामि जाम्योः सचा । घर्मो न वाजजठरोऽदब्धः शश्वतो दभः ॥
愛される乳のように、甘美で望ましい。彼は同族の諸力の親密な結びのうちに生まれる。さらにガルマ（Gharma）のごとく、彼は充溢の腹—欺かれず、常住のうちに尽きることなく衰えない。

क्रीळन्नो रश्म आ भुवः सं भस्मना वायुना वेविदानः । ता अस्य सन्धृषजो न तिग्माः सुसंशिता वक्ष्यो वक्षणेस्थाः ॥
戯れつつ、おお光線よ、汝は来たり—灰と交わり、風とともに、すべてを知り尽くして。彼の諸力は鋭刃の襲撃者のごとく、よく研ぎ澄まされ、担持の座に据えられている。
