第9巻は『アタルヴァ・ヴェーダ』の中でも分量は小さいが思想的に重い区分であり、家内祭儀の目的（繁栄・牛財・守護・健康）を、ṛta（宇宙秩序）やkāla（時間）といった宇宙原理に根拠づけている。讃歌は即効的な呪術の作業を越え、省察的な宇宙論へと踏み込み、とりわけローヒタ（赤い太陽）の讃歌群が際立つ。そこでは太陽の力が、生命を支え、空間と時間を整序し、儀礼と正しく調和するとき繁栄を保証する原理として高められている。この哲学的傾向と並行して、ソーマに関わる素材と祭献の効験が語られ、清新さ・力・霊感ある言葉・供物の成就が結び付けられて、身体の活力が秩序立った祭儀と連動する。さらに終盤には、śānti（鎮静・息災）と防護によって得た繁栄（pausti）を固める祈りが置かれ、攪乱を退け、牛財を守り、和らげる抑制によって健康を保つことが説かれる。
