この一頌のみから成るアタルヴァ・ヴェーダの護符呪は、傷害と早死(ātmano’ hiṃsanam)を避けるための簡潔な自己防護の式である。誦者は宇宙を支えるもの——天と地、中空(空際)、さらには死そのもの——に恭しく礼拝し、「解放/離脱」(mekṣāmi)を求め、身をまっすぐに立て、堅固に守られている間、いかなる強大な力も自分を害さぬよう祈願する。
It is a short self-protection charm meant to prevent injury and avert death by invoking the cosmic realms (Heaven–Earth, Mid-space) and addressing Death directly.
In Atharvavedic practice, acknowledging a sovereign power through respectful address can restrain it; the mantra seeks ‘release’ by placing the reciter under cosmic order rather than panic or hostility.
Its efficacy is primarily verbal and performative: recite while standing upright, with a gesture of reverence, especially before risky situations or when fear of harm arises.
