AV 20.6 は、より古い『リグ・ヴェーダ』のインドラ讃歌に由来するインドラ招請であり、アタルヴァヴェーダの集成において、祭儀の前進と過失なき成就を確保するために転用された。四方八方からインドラを招き、ソーマと讃歌によってその力を増し、それにより障碍を除き、共同体の守護を安定させ、「dyumna(持続する栄光)」を施主と祭儀の会衆へと導く。
Mantra 1
इन्द्र॑ त्वा वृष॒भं व॒यं सु॒ते सोमे॑ हवामहे । स पा॑हि मध्वो॒ अन्ध॑सः
インドラ(Indra)よ、牡牛なる汝を、我らはソーマ(Soma)を搾るときに招き呼ぶ。甘き草木の精髄によって、我らを守れ。
Mantra 2
इन्द्र॑ क्रतु॒विदं॑ सु॒तं सोमं॑ हर्य पुरुष्टुत । पिबा वृ॑षस्व॒ तातृ॑पिम्
インドラよ、決意を知る者よ、搾り出されたソーマ(Soma)を飲め――黄褐の者、広く讃えられる者よ。飲んで力を増し、完全な満足に至れ。
Mantra 3
इन्द्र॒ प्र णो॑ धि॒तावा॑नं य॒ज्ञं विश्वे॑भिर्दे॒वेभिः॑। ति॒र स्त॑वान विश्पते
インドラよ、すべての神々とともに、整えられた祭祀をわれらのために前へ進めよ。汝の讃歌によってあらゆる妨げを越えよ、民の主よ。
Mantra 4
इन्द्र॒ सोमाः॑ सु॒ता इ॒मे तव॒ प्र य॑न्ति सत्पते । क्षयं॑ च॒न्द्रास॒ इन्द॑वः
インドラよ、汝のために搾られたこれらのソーマの滴は、善き者の主よ、汝へと進みゆく。輝く滴(インドゥ)は、安住の住まいをもたらす。

द॒धि॒ष्वा ज॒ठरे॑ सु॒तं सोम॑मिन्द्र॒ वरे॑ण्यम्। तव॑ द्यु॒क्षास॒ इन्द॑वः
インドラよ、搾り出されたソーマ(Soma)――選び取るべき妙なる一杯――を汝の腹に納めよ。天の光に輝く滴(Indu)は、まさに汝のもの。

गिर्व॑णः पा॒हि नः॑ सु॒तं मधो॒र्धारा॑भिरज्यसे । इन्द्र॒ त्वादा॑त॒मिद् यशः॑
讃歌を喜ぶ者(インドラ)よ、われらを護れ。搾り出された甘き飲剤の流れによって、汝は潤される。インドラよ、栄光はまこと汝よりの賜物。

अ॒भि द्यु॒म्नानि॑ व॒निन॒ इन्द्रं॑ सचन्ते॒ अक्षि॑ता । पी॒त्वी सोम॑स्य वावृधे
尽きぬ輝き、勝利をもたらす栄光は、不朽のインドラのもとへ群がり寄る。ソーマを飲みて、彼は力を増した。

अ॒र्वा॒वतो॑ न॒ आ ग॑हि परा॒वत॑श्च वृत्रहन्। इ॒मा जु॑षस्व नो॒ गिरः॑
近き方より、われらのもとへ来たれ。遠き方よりも来たれ、ヴリトラ殺し(Vṛtra-han)よ。われらのこの讃歌の言葉を嘉して受けよ。
Mantra 9
यद॑न्त॒रा प॑रा॒वत॑मर्वा॒वतं॑ च हू॒यसे॑ । इन्द्रे॒ह तत॒ आ ग॑हि
遠き方より、近き方より、またその間の空間より汝が招かれるとき——インドラよ、そのところよりここへ来たれ。
To make a sacrifice proceed smoothly and successfully by invoking Indra (with all the gods) to remove hindrances, arrive promptly, and grant prosperity-like strength and glory.
Soma is the classic source of Indra’s increase in power; the hymn says that imperishable, prize-winning splendours gather to him after Soma, implying that such durable glory can flow to the patron through correct praise and offering.
