アタルヴァ・ヴェーダ第14巻は「婚礼巻」（Vivāha-kāṇḍa）であり、名高い結婚讃歌を伝えて、新婦が父の家から夫の家へと移る過程を、satya（真実）とṛta（宇宙的秩序）のもとに聖別する。二つの長いスークタ全体が儀礼の台本として機能し、祝福、行列や家内での所作、そして夫婦の和合の確立が、婚礼の特定の場面ごとに適用されるマントラとして唱えられる。本巻は、婚姻を社会的に正当で、宇宙的にも支えられた制度として枠づけている。
