Soma Pavamāna (Soma in the act of purification/flowing); with Indra as recipient
Gāyatrī (3 pādas × 8 syllables)
This opening hymn of the Soma Pavamāna book invokes Soma as he is pressed and strained, asking him to flow in a supremely sweet, exhilarating stream for Indra’s drinking. The verses trace Soma’s purification through the filter, his clarification into luminous potency, and the resulting surge of Indra’s victorious power that breaks obstacles (vṛtra) and brings abundance.

Mantra 1
स्वादिष्ठया मदिष्ठया पवस्व सोम धारया । इन्द्राय पातवे सुतः ॥
सोम देवता, तुम बाहर आओ। तुम्हारा रस बहुत मीठा है और मस्ती भरा है। इंद्र देवता के लिए तुम्हारी धार बहो। इंद्र पी के अपनी ताकत बढ़ा लें।

रक्षोहा विश्वचर्षणिरभि योनिमयोहतम् । द्रुणा सधस्थमासदत् ॥
यह बुराई को खत्म करने वाला है। सारी दुनिया का है। वो अपनी जगह पे आके बैठ गया जैसे लोहे में गड़ा हो। अब वो अपनी सीट पकड़ के बैठा है।

वरिवोधातमो भव मंहिष्ठो वृत्रहन्तमः । पर्षि राधो मघोनाम् ॥
हमें जगह दो, हमारे लिए सबसे बड़ा बन के आओ। दुश्मन को मारने वाली ताकत रखना। जो लोग देते हैं उनकी दौलत हम तक पहुंचा दो।

अभ्यर्ष महानां देवानां वीतिमन्धसा । अभि वाजमुत श्रवः ॥
बड़े देवताओं के लिए भोजन की तरफ बहो। तुम्हारा रस उनके लिए है। ताकत और नाम दोनों की तरफ बहो। उनकी खुशी और बधाई हो।

त्वामच्छा चरामसि तदिदर्थं दिवेदिवे । इन्दो त्वे न आशसः ॥
हम तुम्हारे पास बार-बार आते हैं, रोज़-रोज़। एक ही मक़सद से, तुमसे उम्मीद है। इन्दु, तुम्मे हमारी सारी आशाएं हैं। तुम वो खुशी हो जो हमारे मन को पूरा करती है।

पुनाति ते परिस्रुतं सोमं सूर्यस्य दुहिता । वारेण शश्वता तना ॥
सूर्य की बेटी तुम्हारे सोम को साफ करती है। वो पानी के साथ बहता है। उसकी चमक इतनी है कि वो साफ-साफ दिखता है, जैसे छन्नी से पानी साफ होता है।

तमीमण्वीः समर्य आ गृभ्णन्ति योषणो दश । स्वसारः पार्ये दिवि ॥
दस बहनें मिलके उसको पकड़ती हैं और पास लाती हैं। यह सब आसमान में काम करती हैं। सोम को लेकर वो उसे तैयार करती हैं कि वो ऊपर जा सके।

तमीं हिन्वन्त्यग्रुवो धमन्ति बाकुरं दृतिम् । त्रिधातु वारणं मधु ॥
जो लोग थकते नहीं वो उसे आगे बढ़ाते हैं। वो एक चमड़े के थैली में फूँक मारते हैं। उसमें शहद जैसा मीठा रस है, तीन हिस्सों में बना हुआ। यह खुशी को पक्का करता है।

अभीममघ्न्या उत श्रीणन्ति धेनवः शिशुम् । सोममिन्द्राय पातवे ॥
गाइयाँ उसके आस-पास हैं, उसे छूती हैं। वो इस बच्चे को, सोम को, दूध देती हैं। इन्द्र के लिए यह तैयार होता है। ज्ञान की किरणें इस खुशी को बढ़ा रही हैं ताकि इन्द्र उसे पी सके।

अस्येदिन्द्रो मदेष्वा विश्वा वृत्राणि जिघ्नते । शूरो मघा च मंहते ॥
इंद्र सोम के नशा में आके सारे रास्ते साफ करता है। वो सारे बंधन तोड़ देता है जो रुकावट बना है। यह एक बहादुर योद्धा है जिसका बल बढ़ता है। साथ ही उसकी दौलत भी बढ़ती है। जब दिल खुश होता है और साफ मिलता है, तब बल और दौलत दोनों साथ में बढ़ते हैं।
