Indra (probable continuation of Indra praise across the sequence; verse uses pronominal style)
This hymn continues the Mandala 8 stream of Indra-praise, depicting Indra as the ancient “seeker” approached by deliberate powers (kratu) and as the divine gate through which human aspiration and inspired thought enter the realm of the gods. It links communal invocation (the fivefold human community) with the ritual act of spreading the barhis (sacred seat) and culminates in a protective appeal where the Rudras and all gods, with Indra foremost, support the worshipper in the Vṛtra-slaying struggle—outer battle and inner obstruction alike.

Mantra 1
स पूर्व्यो महानां वेनः क्रतुभिरानजे । यस्य द्वारा मनुष्पिता देवेषु धिय आनजे ॥
वो पुराना है, बड़े लोगों में सबसे मैन है। अपनी शक्ति से पास आया है। उसके द्वारों से मनु, जो सबका बाप है, अंदर गया। उसके थ्रू हमारे विचार भगवान तक पहुंचे।

दिवो मानं नोत्सदन्त्सोमपृष्ठासो अद्रयः । उक्था ब्रह्म च शंस्या ॥
आसमान की पूरी ऊंचाई तक पहुंचे हैं यह पत्थर। सोम को अपने ऊपर उठा के चल रहे हैं। गाने और शब्द बोलने हैं।

स विद्वाँ अङ्गिरोभ्य इन्द्रो गा अवृणोदप । स्तुषे तदस्य पौंस्यम् ॥
इंद्र सब जानता था। उसने अंगिरस रिशियों के लिए रोशनी की किरण खोले थे। मैं उसकी ताकत की तारीफ करता हूँ।

स प्रत्नथा कविवृध इन्द्रो वाकस्य वक्षणिः । शिवो अर्कस्य होमन्यस्मत्रा गन्त्ववसे ॥
इंद्र बहुत पुराना है, रिशियों को बड़ा करता है। वो शब्द को आगे ले जाता है। अच्छा है, यहाँ आके हमारी मदद करे। हवन के लिए आए।

आदू नु ते अनु क्रतुं स्वाहा वरस्य यज्यवः । श्वात्रमर्का अनूषतेन्द्र गोत्रस्य दावने ॥
अब पूजारी लोग तुम्हारी मर्ज़ी के हिसाब से स्वाहा बोल के पूजा करते हैं। यह वो चीज़ है जो सबको पसंद आती है। स्तुति गाने वाले लोग इंद्र की ताकत गाते हैं। यह ताकत वो देते हैं जो चमकते हुए खज़ाने दिलाती है।

इन्द्रे विश्वानि वीर्या कृतानि कर्त्वानि च । यमर्का अध्वरं विदुः ॥
इंद्र में सारी बहादुरी इकट्ठी है। जो काम हो चुके हैं और जो अभी होने बाकी हैं, सब उसमें हैं। जो लोग स्तुति के साथ यज्ञ समझते हैं, वो इंद्र को जानते हैं।

यत्पाञ्चजन्यया विशेन्द्रे घोषा असृक्षत । अस्तृणाद्बर्हणा विपोऽर्यो मानस्य स क्षयः ॥
जब पाँच तरह के लोगों ने इंद्र को पुकारा, तो उनकी आवाज़ें फैल गई। तब रिशि ने एक आसन बिछाया जो मन को उठाता है। यह वो जगह है जहाँ मन अच्छा बन जाता है और इंसान बड़ा बन जाता है।

इयमु ते अनुष्टुतिश्चकृषे तानि पौंस्या । प्रावश्चक्रस्य वर्तनिम् ॥
मैंने यह स्तुति तुम्हारे लिए बनाई है। इससे मैं तुम्हारी ताकत को मानता हूँ। और मैं उस पहिए का रास्ता चौड़ा करता हूँ ताकि आगे बढ़ सके।

अस्य वृष्णो व्योदन उरु क्रमिष्ट जीवसे । यवं न पश्व आ ददे ॥
जब बड़ा खुल गया, तो तुमने ज़िंदगी के लिए बड़े कदम रखे। तुमने वो अनाज दिया जो पालतू जानवरों को खिलाता है। यह ताकतों को बढ़ाने वाला खाना है।

तद्दधाना अवस्यवो युष्माभिर्दक्षपितरः । स्याम मरुत्वतो वृधे ॥
हम उस सही चीज़ को पकड़े हुए हैं और मदद माँग रहे हैं। तुम लोग समझ वाले बाप जैसे हो। हम इंद्र के साथ आगे बढ़ें। इंद्र मारुत के साथ हमारे लिए बड़ा हो।

बळृत्वियाय धाम्न ऋक्वभिः शूर नोनुमः । जेषामेन्द्र त्वया युजा ॥
हे सूरमा, हम तुम्हे गानों से आगे बढ़ा रहे हैं। तुम्हारा टाइम और ताकत सही है। इंद्र, हम तुम्हारे साथ जुड़ कर जीतना चाहते हैं।

अस्मे रुद्रा मेहना पर्वतासो वृत्रहत्ये भरहूतौ सजोषाः । यः शंसते स्तुवते धायि पज्र इन्द्रज्येष्ठा अस्माँ अवन्तु देवाः ॥
रुद्र और पर्वत जैसे टगड़े लोग हमारे लिए खुश हों। दुश्मन को मारने में वो साथ दें। जो गाता है और जो प्रशंसा करता है, उसके लिए ताकत है। भगवान लोग इंद्र को सबसे बड़ा मान कर हमारे साथ हों।
