Sukta 4.46
Vāmadeva Gautama (traditional attribution for Maṇḍala 4)
Vāyu
Gāyatrī (8+8+8; typical for short Soma-invitations; verify in critical edition)
Is mantra mein Som ke liye Vayu ko bulaya ja raha hai. Vayu ko kaha ja raha hai ki jaldi aayein aur pehle Som piyein. Kabhi Indra bhi Vayu ke saath aate hain dono mil kar aate hain. Inki jhalak-dar rath ki tareef hai jo chamakta hai. Inke aane se yagya shuru hota hai aur sab theek chalta hai. Yeh aane se bandhan khatam hote hain aur Som ka maza milta hai.
Mantra 1
Vayu bhagwan, pehle tum hi is meetha Som ras ko piyo. Yeh ras abhi nikaala gaya hai aur chamak raha hai. Tum hi ho jo sabse pehle piyo aur hum mein khushi aur taakat laao.
Mantra 2
Indra tumhara rath chala rahe hain. Tum is Som ras se bhar jao. Yeh ras tumhe itna taakat de ki tum sahi disha mein kaam kar sako.
Mantra 3
Indra aur Vayu, tum dono ke liye hazaar chamakdar taakatein yahan aayein. Yeh sab tumhare liye Som ras peene aayi hain. Tum dono milkar hum par apni kripa rakho aur humein aage badhao.
Mantra 4
Indra aur Vayu, tum dono us sona se bane rath par sawaar ho jao. Yeh rath puja ke kaam ke liye bilkul sahi hai. Yeh rath itna uncha hai ki aasman ko chhuta hai. Tum dono ki taakat hum tak aaye aur humara kaam aasman ki taraf le jaaye.
Mantra 5
Indra aur Vayu, tum dono bade shaktishali ho. Apni rath lekar uske paas jao jo yagya kar raha hai. Yahan aao, hamare kaam mein shamil ho jao. Tumhari shakti se yeh yagya bada ho jayega.
Mantra 6
Indra aur Vayu, Soma ka paani taiyaar hai. Isko piyo, aur devataon ke saath milkar piyo. Yeh jo insaan bhagwan ko samarpit kar raha hai, uske ghar aao. Wahan baith ke piyo aur ashirwad do.
Mantra 7
Indra aur Vayu, tumhari yatra yahin se shuru ho. Yahin se niklo. Yahan aao, Soma piyo. Tumhari shakti hamare andar chale aaye. Jo bandhan hain woh khul jayen, taaki hum khushi le sakein bina kisi rukawat ke.
Because in the Soma ritual Vāyu is traditionally invited to drink first (pūrvapāḥ). The hymn highlights his priority as the deity who begins the vital movement of the offering.
Indra and Vāyu are paired in several Soma hymns: Indra represents victorious force, while Vāyu represents swift breath and motion. Together they are invoked to arrive quickly and empower the sacrifice.
Vimocana means ‘release’ or ‘unbinding.’ In ritual terms it asks for obstacles to be removed; inwardly it suggests loosening inner knots so the Soma-inspired clarity and delight can be received.
