Sukta 2.8
Gṛtsamada (Bhārgava) (traditional attribution for RV 2.8)
Agni
Gāyatrī (probable)
Is mantra mein Agni ki taarif ki gayi hai. Unke tez rath aur bal ko sab dekhte hain. Wo jaldi se aate hain aur yagya mein kaam karte hain. Unki chamak aasman jaisi chamakdar hai. Wo bhakt ko apni roshni se gher lete hain. Ant mein sab milkar Agni se raksha maangte hain. Indra, Soma aur doosre devta bhi saath mein madad karte hain. Isse ladai mein jeet milti hai.
Mantra 1
Ab Agni ki stuti karo. Jaise rath aur jug aage badhte hain, waise Agni bhi aage badhta hai. Woh sabse bada data hai, uski jai bolo.
Mantra 2
Yeh Agni hai jo daan dene wale ka saath deta hai. Woh kabhi fail nahi hota. Woh andar ke dushman ko khatam karta hai. Uska chehra acha hai aur havan mein jalta hai.
Mantra 3
Agni ki chamak itni hai ki log raat aur subah uski tareef karte hain. Ghar-ghar mein uska naam liya jaata hai. Uska kaam kabhi kam nahi hota. Woh sachchai pe chalta hai.
Mantra 4
Agni aisa aata hai jaise aasman ki roshni ho. Uski chamak alag-alag rangon jaisi hai. Woh apni aag se chamak raha hai. Woh hum sab taraf se umar se bhi badi taakat deta hai.
Mantra 5
Rishi Atri ke saath chale ke uske apne raaj par, in sab gaano ne Agni ko bada kiya. Aur usne upar wali sab chamak apne paas kar li. Woh roshni aur poorepan ko sthit kiya.
Mantra 6
Agni, Indra aur Soma, in teen devtaon ki madad se hum safe rehte hain. Hum unka saath pakad ke chalte hain. Aur jo humse ladte hain, unpar hum jeet paate hain. Yeh andar ki ladai jeetne ka raasta hai.
It praises Agni as a swift, powerful helper in the sacrifice and as a radiant light that strengthens the worshipper, ending with a prayer for safety and victory over opponents.
It is a poetic way to describe Agni’s means of rapid action—how the fire-power quickly reaches the offering and carries it effectively to the gods, and how that same force drives inner progress.
The hymn is primarily to Agni, but it concludes by invoking allied divine supports—Agni with Indra, Soma, and the other gods—so the worshipper’s protection and success are reinforced from multiple powers.
