Rishi

Bharadvāja Bārhaspatya

Devata

Aśvinau (the twin divine healers/rescuers, lords of swift luminous movement)

Chandas

Jagatī (probable for RV 6.62 opening; long pādas typical of jagatī in Aśvin hymns)

Inside Sukta 62

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

The seer praises and summons the Aśvins as wideners of heaven who, at dawn, drive away boundaries and open broad desirable paths (RV 6.62.1).

  2. Development

Their swift, far-ranging help is established through remembered deeds of rescue and their capacity to move across realms with ‘winged’ means—lifting the endangered from overwhelming waters into safety (e.g., Bhujyu episode, RV 6.62.6).

  3. Climax

A direct, comprehensive invitation: come with yoked powers from the highest, middle, and lowest regions—turning toward the worshipper with total reach across existence (RV 6.62.11a).

  4. Where it settles

The prayer resolves in the boon-request: open even the firmly closed doors of the luminous cow-pen—release light, wealth, and increase to the singer (RV 6.62.11b).

The deity: Aśvinau

  • Inner significanceThe paired powers of rapid illumination and effective action: intuition and execution, cure and renewal, that lift consciousness out of obscurity (‘waters’) and open the ‘doors’ of inner light and abundance.

The seer

  • Bharadvāja BārhaspatyaBharadvāja gotra (Āṅgirasa/Bārhaspatya line, traditionally linked with Bṛhaspati) · A principal seer of Maṇḍala 6, renowned for hymns of effective invocation—especially to Agni, Indra, and the Aśvins—combining ritual precision with the theme of opening paths and winning light/cattle/wealth.
