अथर्वणीयपरम्परायां संक्षिप्तोऽयं मोचनमन्त्रः (अथर्ववेदशौनकसंहिता ६.११२) ‘पाश’ इति प्रतीकेन ग्रहोपद्रवबन्धनं प्राणान्तिकं च व्यसनं निरूपयति। अत्र अग्निः पाशमोचकः समाहूयते—यो ‘ग्राह्यं’ (ग्राहकं/आवेशकरं) छेत्तुं मोचयितुं च वेत्ति; विश्वे देवाश्च तस्य कर्मणोऽनुमोदकाः साक्षिणश्च भवन्ति। मन्त्रः पीडितस्यैव न मोचनं, किं तु समग्रकुटुम्बस्य गृहस्य च विमोचनं विस्तारयति, अन्ते च बन्धनस्याधारभूतं दुरितं (पापं/अमङ्गलं) शुद्ध्या निरस्यति।

पाशमोचनम्। मा ज्येष्ठं वधीः। अयम् अग्ने एषां मूलबर्हणात् परितः पाह्येनम्। स प्रजानन् ग्राह्यान् पाशान् विचृत; तुभ्यं विश्वे देवाः अनुजानन्तु।

येभिः पाशैः परिवित्तो विबद्धोऽङ्गेऽङ्ग आर्पित उत्सितश्च। वि ते मुच्यन्तं विमुचो हि सन्ति; भ्रूणघ्नि पूषन् दुरितानि मृक्ष्व।
