Sukta 5.86
yā́ pṛ́tanāsu duṣṭárā yā́ vā́jeṣu śravā́yyā | yā́ páñca carṣaṇī́r abhī́ndrāgnī tā́ havāmahe ||
Invocation for victory and śravas in contests and soma rites; supports the sacrificer’s overcoming of hostile forces and attainment of luminous renown.
inner battle and crossing (tṛ), śravas as truth-resonance, collective human field (five peoples) uplifted by divine powers
Victory is the restoration of right order in the fivefold nature; the gods’ battle is for ṛta’s establishment in the human field.
Śravas as the audible/recognized truth of victory—truth that becomes stable and ‘heard’ in the being.
Uplifting the ‘five peoples’ is a microcosmic ordering of creation—bringing multiplicity into a harmonized divine governance.
Vedic psychology of transformation; compatible with Sāṃkhya-like mapping of parts, and Integral Yoga’s integration of nature under higher force.
Battle = inner struggle; five peoples = multiple drives and faculties; Indrāgnī = catalytic energy that integrates and conquers.
Invoke an invincible combined force to lead the inner battle and uplift the whole being.
Manipura (courage/drive) with Ajna (clear direction).
3 rounds of kapalabhati (if suitable) followed by calm nasal breathing while chanting 9 times; or simply chant on steady exhale for grounding.
Mobilized, courageous, organized.
Before practice, identify the ‘battle’ (pṛtanā). Chant once slowly to set intention, then 8 times steadily. Visualize five inner parts aligning behind a single leader-force. Finish with one minute of silent resolve.
Keep the three Gāyatrī pādas evenly balanced; observe udātta on the initial ‘yā’ phrases; let the last pāda land firmly on ‘havāmahe’.
Each ‘yā’ begins a new attribute—slight micro-pause between pādas; final call is strongest.
Cluster ‘pṛtanāsu’ with clear vocalic ṛ (pṛ-ta-nā-su)., ‘duṣṭarā’ with retroflex ṣ and clear ṭ (duṣ-ṭa-rā)., ‘carṣaṇīḥ’ keep ṣṇ cluster crisp (car-ṣa-ṇīḥ).
Commanding and steady, like a rallying call.
