Sukta 10.96
só asya vájro hárīto yá ā́yaso hárir níkāmo hárir ā́ gábhastyoḥ | dyumnī́ suśípro hárimanyu-sāyaka índre ní rū́pā hárītā mimikṣire ||
Indra’s vajra imagery central to soma hymns; supports invocation for breaking inner and outer obstacles.
ṛta as right-directed force (ni-kāma), transformation of manyu (ardor) into a luminous instrument
‘ni rūpā… mimikṣire’ suggests establishment/ordering—illumined forms fixed in Indra per ṛta.
Āyasa (iron) points to satya’s firmness—truth that does not bend to lower impulses.
Forging and fixing: the divine crafts a stable instrument and integrates energies into a coherent power.
Yoga of transformation: purification of vital force into spiritual will under illumined mind.
Metal = firmness of will; tawny = solar illumination; arrow = focused intention cutting through obscurity.
Forge the inner vajra: bring light (clarity) + iron firmness (steadfast will) + purified ardor (harimanyu) into one directed force.
Maṇipūra (will/force)
Kapalabhāti (gentle, 30–60 strokes) followed by stillness; then chant once slowly to stabilize the force.
Decisive, concentrated, luminous power ready to break resistance.
Identify one ‘coverer’ pattern (avoidance, doubt). On ‘vajraḥ’ feel a firm column in the spine; on ‘harimanyu’ feel ardor purified in the navel; end by resting in a golden stillness where all energies are ‘mixed’ in Indra (ni rūpā).
Maintain emphatic peaks on vajraḥ and harita/harir repetitions; keep strong cadence into the final ni rūpā… mimikṣire.
Let compounds be cleanly articulated: harimanyu-sāyakaḥ as one force-word; pause lightly after āyasaḥ and after gabhastyoḥ.
vajra: jra cluster (not ‘vajira’), āyasaḥ: long ā; s dental, nikāmaḥ: long ā; avoid nasalizing k, gabhastyoḥ: bh aspirated; yoḥ with long oḥ, mimikṣire: kṣ conjunct; i vowels clear
Firm, resonant, slightly percussive; avoid haste so the ‘forging’ quality is felt.
