Triṣṭubh
In this brief Triṣṭubh hymn, Vasiṣṭha invokes Savitṛ as the divine Impeller who travels through the midspace with his steeds, bearing gifts and right direction for human life. Savitṛ is asked to “settle” the worshippers in a fitting dwelling, to set their works in motion, to expand luminous intelligence, and to grant sustaining nourishment and wide vitality. The hymn ends as a spoken offering of praise, seeking enduring well-being and protection.

आ देवो यातु सविता सुरत्नोऽन्तरिक्षप्रा वहमानो अश्वैः । हस्ते दधानो नर्या पुरूणि निवेशयञ्च प्रसुवञ्च भूम ॥
सविता देवता हमारे पास आएं। वो अश्वों पे सवार हवा में आते हैं। उनके हाथ में इंसान के लिए अच्छी चीज़ें होती हैं। वो हमको सही जगह बिठा दें और हमारे काम सही दिशा में चलें।

उदस्य बाहू शिथिरा बृहन्ता हिरण्यया दिवो अन्ताँ अनष्टाम् । नूनं सो अस्य महिमा पनिष्ट सूरश्चिदस्मा अनु दादपस्याम् ॥
भगवान के दोनों हाथ ऊपर उठ गए हैं, बड़े और खुले हुए। वो हाथ सोने जैसे चमक रहे हैं और आसमान के किनारे तक जा रहे हैं। अब उनकी बड़ाई साफ दिख रही है। सूरज भी उनके पीछे चल रहा है और सही काम कर रहा है।

स घा नो देवः सविता सहावा साविषद्वसुपतिर्वसूनि । विश्रयमाणो अमतिमुरूचीं मर्तभोजनमध रासते नः ॥
सविता देवता हमारी मदद करें, वो ताकत वाला है। वो हमें धन और संपदा दे, यह सब की मालिक है। वो हमारे दिमाग को चमका दे और हमें वो खाना दे जो इंसान को ज़ि�दा रखता है।

इमा गिरः सवितारं सुजिह्वं पूर्णगभस्तिमीळते सुपाणिम् । चित्रं वयो बृहदस्मे दधातु यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
हम सविता भगवान की प्रार्थना करते हैं, उनकी ज़बान अच्छी है और हाथ भरे हुए हैं। वो हमें देते भी हैं। भगवान हमारे अंदर नई ताकत डालें, चमकदार और बड़ी। आप सब हमारा ख्याल रखें और हमें हमेशा अच्छा रखें।

The rite, step by step
- Prepare a clean place and kindle/approach the household fire (if in an Agnihotra setting) with quiet attention.
- Face east at dawn (or before commencing an important task), recollect Savitṛ as the impelling light.
- Recite the hymn (RV 7.45) with a brief sankalpa: for right dwelling, right impulse of works, and well-being.
- Conclude with a protective prayer (svasti) for oneself, household, and companions; sit briefly in silence to ‘receive’ the impulse.
