Agni Vaiśvānara
Triṣṭubh
This hymn praises Agni as Vaiśvānara—the universal Fire—who is born like a king and, by his radiance, separates and orders the dark and bright days. Agni is acclaimed as the first-seeing Hotṛ who reveals “immortal light” within mortals, dispelling inner and outer darkness. The suktā culminates in an appeal for protection and uplift, with even the gods bowing before Agni standing in the darkness.

Mantra 1
अहश्च कृष्णमहरर्जुनं च वि वर्तेते रजसी वेद्याभिः । वैश्वानरो जायमानो न राजावातिरज्ज्योतिषाग्निस्तमांसि ॥
दिन की दो शाखें हैं, एक काला, एक उजला। दोनों अपनी अपनी लाइन पर चलते हैं। अग्नि जब पैदा होता है, वो राजा की तरह आता है। उसकी रोशनी अंधेरा तोड़ देती है। लोगों के अंदर जो ग्यान आता है, वो अंधेरा हटा देता है।

नाहं तन्तुं न वि जानाम्योतुं न यं वयन्ति समरेऽतमानाः । कस्य स्वित्पुत्र इह वक्त्वानि परो वदात्यवरेण पित्रा ॥
मैं अभी वो धागा नहीं जानता, ना ही जानता कि कौन सेहता है। जो लोग इस काम में लगे हैं, वो क्या सेहते हैं, यह भी समझ नहीं आता। यहाँ कौन का बोल सकता है? बात तो वो आती है जो दूर से आती है, लेकिन पास वाले बाप की सपोर्ट से।

स इत्तन्तुं स वि जानात्योतुं स वक्त्वान्यृतुथा वदाति । य ईं चिकेतदमृतस्य गोपा अवश्चरन्परो अन्येन पश्यन् ॥
वो जालता है धागा क्या है, और कैसे सेहता है। सही टाइम पर सही बात बोलता है। वो इंसान जाग जाता है, अमृत की रक्षा करता है। वो नीचे चलता है, लेकिन ऊपर वाली नज़र से देखता है।

अयं होता प्रथमः पश्यतेममिदं ज्योतिरमृतं मर्त्येषु । अयं स जज्ञे ध्रुव आ निषत्तोऽमर्त्यस्तन्वा वर्धमानः ॥
यह वो पुजारी है जो पहले देखता है, अंदर की रोशनी जो कभी मरती नहीं। वो पैदा होके पक्का बैठ जाता है। मरने वाली बॉडी में रह के भी वो बढ़ता रहता है।

ध्रुवं ज्योतिर्निहितं दृशये कं मनो जविष्ठं पतयत्स्वन्तः । विश्वे देवाः समनसः सकेता एकं क्रतुमभि वि यन्ति साधु ॥
एक पक्की रोशनी रखी है देखने के लिए। दिल सबसे तेज़ है, वो अंदर की तरफ उड़ता है। सारे भगवान एक मन से एक तरफ जाते हैं। सब मिलकर एक ही काम को सही करते हैं।

वि मे कर्णा पतयतो वि चक्षुर्वीदं ज्योतिर्हृदय आहितं यत् । वि मे मनश्चरति दूरआधीः किं स्विद्वक्ष्यामि किमु नू मनिष्ये ॥
मेरे कान खुल गए हैं, आँखें फैल गई हैं। दिल में एक रोशनी बैठ गई है। मेरा दिमाग दूर तक सोचने लग गया है। अब मैं क्या बोलूँ, क्या सोचूँ, समझ में नहीं आ रहा।

विश्वे देवा अनमस्यन्भियानास्त्वामग्ने तमसि तस्थिवांसम् । वैश्वानरोऽवतूतये नोऽमर्त्योऽवतूतये नः ॥
सारे देवता डर के मारे झुक गए। अग्नि अँधेरे में खड़ा था, तब भी चमक रहा था। वो अमर है, वो हमें बचाए। वो हमें आगे ले जाए, हमारा भला करे।
